Why isn't this boat sold?

Beautiful fresh water Gun with 525's and ITS. Everyone is talking about buying a T/S gun for under $100K. All that will buy you is junk. How about something turn-key like this?

That boat WAS on our short list before we bought our PP. My wife wasn't big on the color combo, but I like it. She also wasn't a fan of the playboy cabin layout. I will say it looks to be extremely clean and very well cared for. Definitely shows pride in ownership. I have watched the price drop 50K. It's getting closer to the current market value, but IMHO it's not quite there yet.

pm203 09-27-2011 09:53 PM

Color combo is not my favorite but still tastefully done. If a tired, beat T/S Gun can be had for just under $100K (according to the experts), wouldn't a nice boat like this be worth this $$ all day long?

302Sport 09-27-2011 10:37 PM

Yes and no. It isn't worth the extra $40k to get a prestine piece for somebody who works on their own boat because they can bring a rougher boat back up to shape for a lot less money than somebody who just drops it at the shop and says make it perfect. So, obviously for the guy who just drops the boat at the shop, yeah a perfect boat for a lot more money might make sense but for the guy who does his own work it doesn't make sense.

That's a buddy of mines boat. Very Very clean he will not sell it for 100k. He may discount a few grand from his asking price but that is all...i have been in the boat and think it's worth his asking price...Tom

I am not saying that he should sell it for $100K. What I am saying is how much a better value this boat is than say a $100k used up salt water rat that needs a full resto. That is the whole point of this thread.

The colors made all the difference for me........I kept looking at this boat on the site for a long time but couldn't bring myself to deal with the purple and teals.........although many boats with "dated" paint do look much better in person.....especially if they're very clean. I'm sure this is a nice piece.......looks well cared for. I would think it will sell to the right buyer for that price in time.

wnelles 09-28-2011 08:28 AM

It does look like a very nice boat. But this boat has been for sale for a very long time. It all comes down to one thing, price.

302Sport 09-28-2011 09:55 AM

Agree 100 percent with the above comment. In these economic times 90 percent of people who are looking for a boat are going to want the cheapest one of that make/model on the market. We are in the aircraft business and it is the same way. You try to explain to people about how nice of a top gun it is and their response is going to be "well I can go buy so and so's boat for 100 grand. Sad but its the truth, cheapest one always sells, so the people who spend the time and money to keep their stuff up to par are the ones taking it in rear when it comes time to sell.

jeff1000man 09-28-2011 10:21 AM

No one maintains a boat like this guy. It is in great shape and runs great. Been in it and rode in it many times.:coolcowboy:

Understand....he gets a bunch of calls and emails from people offering 100k ...but no one will look at the boat in person. He does not have to sell it, he just does not use it much with his grandkids around and we have no water in our local lake.

I do aggree with you on the money saved from buying a project boat vs. buying a turn key that has been maintained with a open checkbook. I have missed a lot of hours on the water stepping over dollars to pick up pennies...:coolcowboy:

302Sport 09-28-2011 10:37 AM

What do people have to loose when making a $100k offer?? If your lucky, you might be the lucky guy after people have beat him down with lowballs, and your standing there with a check for $100k, he might say take the god damn thing and get out of here. That's how most people get a deal. Right place, right time, and people have had enough

302Sport 09-28-2011 10:39 AM

You know you didnt get a good deal if they take your first offer.....

the day he sells that boat for 100K it will be in my boat slip....I am in the retail business...i have no problem telling some one to pound sand over a low ball offer, he does not as well...:party-smiley-004:

I would have looked hard this boat had it not been for the covergirl cabin. I like the paint I am guessing it looks even better in person

TWIN-SPINS 09-28-2011 11:11 AM

x2,,,i have no problem with the cover girl,,,interior,,,nice boat from the pics

302Sport 09-28-2011 11:24 AM

i dont have a problem telling people to pound sand either, but after 100 low ballers, the guy standing there with a check looks more and more enticing haha

So true, I'm trying to sell one right now and I have rebuilt motors & drives. You would be better off driving the $hit out of it and selling it because your not going to get anything you put in out of it anyway.

Case in point. I had another boat (1983) years a go I bought for $@22K put $40K into it and sold it for $20K. I thought I could get at least $30K. :drink:

redbud35 09-28-2011 07:25 PM

I made an offer on the boat too. I wouldn't keep the colors like they are, that's why I lowballed.

Thank goodness. If you want quality, you have to pay.

Yep...and phone calls are just that, anyone can dial a phone and make an offer, means nothing......go look at a boat with cash in your hand, and the diesel engine idling on the dually ready to take it away..and strange things happen.

FWIW, I just picked it up for $90K cash!!!

I WISH, nice CIG!!!!! :-)

The boat does not have what I would consider Teal, It has a off white fade, like a Tommy Bahamma color combo. I have a shirt that matches it perfect. Here are a few pix I have of it.

Right On!

Quality is not expensive, it's priceless:drink:

jeff1000man 09-29-2011 05:33 AM

You guys keep trying to beat him up. That boat is an excellent buy at even a higher price. And I dont say that about many boats.

And for you guys that keep saying show up with cash and an idling truck, you will be wishing you had asking price because it is that nice of a boat. It is all ready low balled at asking price.

Biggus 09-29-2011 05:53 AM

FWIW, I'd much rather pay a premium for a nice clean piece from the start than have the headaches involved in retoring a project. It's draining.....

Personally, I like the colors, they work well and it's done right by Grafikworx.

Nice boat,

Kurt

POWERPLAY J 09-29-2011 06:11 AM

I've been eyeing it. If I only had another 20k I would be in it.

pm203 09-29-2011 06:45 AM

This boat was originally built for a very good friend of mine. All of his boats are built to a higher standard than your typical Cigarette as mine was. Weekly trips to the factory and daily conversations with Neil and Phil go along way to producing a better boat. It has a lot of extras. Some you see, some you don't. The paint is understated, but has some of Harold's signature fades and is very impressive in person. Even the entire deck has been cleared and shines incredibly! This was one of the first boats to have ITS and had the motors upgraded to 525's when it was a couple years old. Boats of this quality are not found everywhere.
So, when someone brings up the point of T/S guns being available for under $100K, by the way which I can't seem to find, one saying immediately comes to mind." You can pay now or you can pay later, but you will pay".

jeff32 09-29-2011 06:55 AM

can't get to like the green... but sure looks as new!

I was wondering how long it would be before you said something about the paint, haha! :drink:

BTW, I really like the boat too. While I'm sure it's in great condition and probably a good value as it doesn't appear to need much, the boat apparently is a little over priced... If it wasn't, it would have sold a long time ago... PERIOD. Same is true of many other nice boats out there that have been on the market for a looooooong time.

jmeng 09-29-2011 07:24 AM

Don't feel the need to get involved in the price argument but I've seen this boat in person and liked the paint.

jeff1000man 09-29-2011 07:27 AM

I think the only problem with this boat like a lot of them is that it is HERE. If it was up on East coast, or in FL. It would be sold by now at asking price.

Location, location, location

Good point, but it's only a $3k tow away. :)

302Sport 09-29-2011 07:30 AM

It's really not uncommon these days for boats to go for about 2/3 of their asking price.

Possibly... It's not something I was orriginally planning on doing as I hate towing the boat in that area, but it would be fun to take the boat around the city. If the weather looks really nice we may end up going.
