He says if I pay for fuel he will pay for dockage and any food hotels, but most likely will go with a trailer because I would prefer to keep it on a trailer anyways so might as well buy it now....

That boat has been for sale a looooooong time. I would have an inspection and see it in person before handing them $1. Cheaper in the long run to pay more up front then to buy a problem and try to fix it.

Sometimes the boat could be free, and still cost more to get it into the shape you want it, then buying one already to run. Takes big money to get a beat up boat back into good "Cigarette Shape" . Just my 2 Cents. I am sure others will chime in. Other good boats in the mix.
