Would like your thoughs.
As some may/may not know, we are currently redoing our Cafe. New power and new paint. Our Cafe has the 90 MPH paint scheme. We are not going to paint the interior area as it is still in very good shape - only redoing the dash with some carbon fiber and some very small detail items inside. We are completely repainting the outside i.e. hull, deck, drives, tabs, platform, etc...
My question is - can a person play with the sacred Cigarette 90 MPH paint? I am considering putting some pearl in the red. The pearl would not show from 10+ foot, only when you are upon it. Would a Cig owner be turned off by this? Or should I not goof around with the paint scheme and leave it a solid red? I'm checking out samples this Thursday and am really on the fence. What do you think? |

Boats aren't like cars. It doesn't nor will it ever matter. Do what makes you happy.
|
I like the Half-90 over the paint job you have now.
You might try a deep candy burgundy. A friend has such a color on his Fountain, and it's probably one of the best looking boat paint jobs I have seen. |
Love that paint job. I would keep the theme and maybe go for for the 90 mph version where the nose of the boat is white and the rear is red cut on the angle . There some Top guns and a flat deck done that way.

I thing it would look Awesome with some pearl in it.

Go for what makes you happy with the boat. It will look good either way, IMO.
|
I like the half 90 MPH paint job myself. Mine had a slight dark Blue to Red fade in the front and I didn't care for it.
|
I'd leave it alone. It is a scheme that will never be outdated.

What do you think? The original paint job's idea came from a Marlboro Red box & a divers flag, which doesn't have any pearl in it, if that makes a difference. http://c580019.r19.cf2.rackcdn.com/w...rlboro-red.jpg http://www.flagstuff.com/images/prod...kindiver-g.png |

...Now onto the real question. Is the speed going to match the paint job after the new power is done? :D
@ Smitty - I can not put pearl in the white without painting interior as well, the white rolls from interior to exterior. @ BLee - the shade of red is not changing... i think? I will check out the samples in a couple days and try to start posting some pics soon. Thanks everyone! |
Candy or metallic would make the red pop without changing the hue. Just another idea.
|
I really like the half 90... But to each is own!

Stretch the white on the hull sides to have more of a forward lean to it. It'll make the boat look longer, more modern and still keep the heritage of the 90mph scheme. The stretched Cig logo will go with it, too.
I love the paint scheme, but just not wild about the big block of white that breaks up the hull sides. And like everyone else is saying.... make it the way you want! |

Did/does it look like this?? Love this boat! http://www.powerboatlistings.com/pow...refino_004.jpg http://www.powerboatlistings.com/pow...refino_021.jpg http://www.powerboatlistings.com/pow...refino_001.jpg |
I know for a fact he has no intention of changing the current lines of the paint outside of changing the logo a little. He wants to keep the history of the boat like it is. Half nineties, stretching, or changing the layout is not in his plan.
He's had the thought of adding just a subtle pearl to the red for a mild look. He's afraid it would detract from future interest in the boat if he does it and wants to know if others agree with that thought or disagree. Buck |
Why wouldn't you paint the inside when you are already this far into it? If your already doing new outside paint and new panels there's not much left then it will be completely done along with new power.
|
I think the pearl would give it a fresh look, go for it.

Add some pearl and let the PBB boys work their magic... good luck!

Your boat is timeless. I would maybee redo the cig oval and the Cafe script. Have an artist do some air brush work to make them trick. Also If you can feel your stripes, clear and sand to bury all the graphics. My two cents.

Thanks again for everyone's input. I'll post some pics as soon as I can. You can also follow it a MWBP throught 'This week at Performance Boat Brokage' thread or, I think, Brett is starting a new thread just on the Cafe. Chad |
