42X 188th Street Edition

I dont see it in the classifieds anymore, did it sell after the price drop? I loved that boat but just couldnt swing it comfortably.

soggy bottom 04-24-2012 04:58 PM

I was wondering the same, it would not surprise me it was down $170.000, it was there for only three days at that price and then they ad was gone.

POWERPLAY J 04-24-2012 05:13 PM

If I had the loot the boat would've been sold a long time ago...

thisistank 04-24-2012 05:18 PM

Wnelles bought it. Love the colors, scheme, boat in general. Its a sweet ride.

FYI, not technically a 42X.

That boat was owned by a guy down here in VA. I didn't know he had it for sale.............

fastoys 04-24-2012 08:22 PM

I heard yesterday its available.

the bear 04-27-2012 08:54 AM

If not technically an X is it a Tiger?

soggy bottom 04-27-2012 11:21 AM

doh

soggy bottom 04-27-2012 11:22 AM

I thought all side by side were tigers, and staggered ones were X models.

Straight Tigers were the original 42's after the Revolutions. Cig stepped the bottom and still called them Tigers. When they put big power and 6's on the newly stepped Tigers the CG was not right and "some" of them didn't run very well so Cigarette changed the steps around to cure the CG problem and the 42X was born.

For a couple years Cig sold the Tiger with the original step bottom that could be ordered with XR's and smaller power and the 42X was reserved for bigger power. Then they went away with the original step design and only built the 42X because it works basically with any set up.

;)

thanks for the info on the differences between the two but what do you mean the 188th street version is not technically a 42X?

fastoys 04-28-2012 06:38 PM

soggy bottom 04-28-2012 06:48 PM

Randy at Cobra Power told me 120 plus.

It was built before they named them 42x's. Right at the time they were changing factories. There's a handful of 42's that arent dubbed tigers or 42X's that were built in the 03/04 era before cigarette officially changed the name of the 42 from the Tiger to the 42X. Some people call them 42x's but you won't see "42X" anywhere on the boat like the ones built later. A few of the 42's built around this time had the old bottom as well.

fastoys 04-29-2012 06:49 PM

I heard someone from long island bought it for $150k

the bear 04-30-2012 08:44 AM

Wow....great deal if they did!!

Thanks for the education.....its always great to get the information from someone who really does know!

4FX 04-30-2012 05:53 PM

in the 04' Brochure Cigarette had the 42' Tiger the 42 Tiger T/S both of these were side/side with up to the 600SCi's The 42 XXX with tripple 525EFI's in it and B1's and the 42X stagered with whatever BIG power out there and 6's .

kreed 05-08-2012 09:08 AM

120 MPH according to Cobra? Wow, wonder how stable the boat is at that speed?

SS930 05-08-2012 10:00 AM

So tank (or others), how can you tell which bottom a 42 has by looking at it? That's something I think I'd want to know in a 120 mph boat.

BTW, congrats to the new owner's, at $150k to $170k the boat was a great buy (regardless of bottom)!

They are actually pretty easy to tell apart just by looking at the step position on the hull. The steps on the X are closer together. The first step is basically in the same position, but the second step is further aft on the tiger.

Looks like It's back up in the classifieds.

kreed 05-09-2012 07:35 AM

I heard VERY recently the boat is sold....

the bear 05-09-2012 08:34 AM

A post in the other thread made reference that the financing fell through.

What props was is it running to get the 120 mark?

302Sport 05-09-2012 08:47 AM

The other guys financing fell through, not the current buyers. 17x33 5 blades and the boat ran 121....

the bear 05-09-2012 09:08 AM

Great to know, I think that is a great boat for that price, I would have loved to been able to swing it, but just not in my cards.......congrats to the new owners!!

Where is it heading?

Unlimited jd 05-09-2012 09:12 AM

I've said it before, and I'll say it again..... " I need a better job"

Panther 05-22-2012 08:19 PM

Hey Adam, how's it going. Were you guys able to get the boat home for the upcoming holiday weekend?

302Sport 05-22-2012 08:34 PM

If mother nature cooperates haha. I've been down in Florida getting our other boat and hopefully tomorrow or Thursday the Cig will be in CT. It's so clean right now that I really don't want to move it if its raining.
