i always love reading threads where guys with experiance in the subject chime in and give the OP good solid advice. (cig+farmer) both guys with 100mph+ flat bottoms.. not to many of those out there.. you would think maybe..just maybe they might have a clue. THEN a true expert chimes in (most of the time is "boatless" or " big bank account and looking" or " just havent found the right one yet") and tells them the real fix. in my opinion i think if you put twin air filters from a honda civic on your top gun it will give you all the power in the world to power through that hop!!

Hey Tim,
This has turned into a funny thread. I never new about trimming it properly. This insight has now opened up a new era of boating for me. lol. My straight bottom doesn't hop. My x Dimension is high. And like you said earlier......Just drive faster..... Hope things are good, got the Pantera away for the season.

I also like Kevins comments. He was spot on. Most haven't driven a straight bottom gun faster then 70. Opinions are like ass-oles, everyone's got one

Im curious...What does this wedge look like (and please no on chime in and say a wedge) ....does anyone have a pic ?

My top end was 68 on my 90 TG with 530 a side with TRS drives and I started seeing what you guys was talking about on the hop.
I have now started my upgrades for the winter that will include 871 blowers / chillers, extension boxes, xr drives with shorties ...Im wondering if the hop issue will be worse or will I be able to push on past it?

My 94 gun runs right at 90mph... Once I get past 70 it is smooth! I only notice the hop when i cruise at 55mph or so

Just plug and play!!!! Lots of power no hop...lol. Weather has been up and down. Gonna be a long time to spring, so you might as well get out if you can.

Not saying that it wont work, but i know the boat handles flawlessly over 60 and since modifying the hull can't be cheap, I'm thinking along the lines of just adding power with that money to get a higher cruise speed rather than solve the hop and get no speed for the coin spent.I've tried 28p props and achieved 52mph at 3300rpm with minimal top end gain so maybe 600hp n/a and 30's and well under 10g's considering the motors have just shy of 400hrs on them anyway.

You can get the wedge done for well under 1000 dollars. Any good fiberglass guy can do it once he understands what needs to be done. I'd personally get the hop fixed before "throwing power" at it. Adding power isn't going to fix the problem its just going to make it less noticeable. Just my opinion tho. :)

The "wedge" is about 18 long and 4" wide and consists of 4 layers of glass.
The 1st is a full 18" long
The 2nd is 13.5"
The 3rd is 9"
And the 4th is 4.5"

Its not much at all and is really only an 1/8th". That's a good place to start any way. Try it out and if it still has a slight hop keep adding a thenth of an inch until its gone. Don't let people tell you it will decrease the value of the boat or say it will ruin the boat. In my opinion nobodys goning to want to buy a boat that flops around like a bent dick on dead calm or light choppy water. Its your boat do whatever the hell you want with it. :lolhit:
