Only problem with the merc ignitions is the early rev limiters caused some severe problems for me last year. Other than that great systems.

I've experienced too many MSD failures to ever consider that route again.

I agree! Between me and my close boating buddy, we lost a total of 4 msd boxes in 2 summers. He lost 2, I lost 2. At 350 bucks a box for the marine ones, unacceptable for me. Switched to Crane myself. Heres a pic of the internals of each. You be the judge.

Mild is right!!!! Crane is the way to go. They hook right up to the MSD coil and Distributor. It also has a indicator light to show you whats going on and built in adjustable Rev limiters. Plus they are black and go with every paint option. It sucks running with a spare MSD box waiting for it to go out.

Yup. That blue box didnt go with my scheme at all. Not too mention, you can find the Crane 6000-6440 Digital race box, with built in limiter and diagnostic function, for around 200 bucks. The MSD marine 6560 is almost twice that, and isnt even a Digital box.

Thanks to all of you who responded. I am going to have to ditch the idea of the MSD 6ML and consider getting the rev limiter for what I already have - the Merc V6 box. The Crane box also sounds good since I wouldn't have to get a rev limiter and it would be a new system. Onwards, Bill

Bill,,remember that rev limiter box i sold you for your corvette,, well that can be wired in with the ignition,,boublr check on msd's website first..also you will need to buy the msd rev control box's for the msd 6ml..

or daytona sensors make a better box than msd..set it with a laptop..http://www.daytona-sensors.com/CD1.html

ps the daytona box looks like what crane use to sell,,crane box's are NLA so the daytona sensors are a identical match to cranes..

Ditch the MSD. Cost me a couple tow ins, and eventually an engine. Theres a reason "if" you see them in a race boat they have two moduels and a switch to change over mid race..

And spares in the truck....

You don't have to order anything but a U.S. Tow membership if you keep that other box
