Possible they are 1.55 but not sure that then show worse slippage. They would have to be lower ratio to show faster mph, therefore giving a false reading of a lower slip (if you assumed they were 1.5 and were in fact say 1.35), correct?

Correct. They had 1.18, 1.33, 1.4 , 1.44, 1.5 uppers as well as 1:1 and 1.125 lower ratios. While they could have been obviosuly changed out over the years, if you get me the letters off the upper and lower housings on the port side of drives, i could at least tell you what they came with originally.

But , if say you have a lower numeric ratio, then yes, your slip numbers would be higher than what you are figuring.

Spin the prop 1 time and count how many times the drive shaft turns next time they are out. 1.5 = 1 1/2 turns

Makes sense, and you may be on to something. I cannot see this boat being that efficient, due to the fact it came from the factory as a gentleman's cruiser, and never really had any special setups (until I got it, and we did what we did to it). But still, it's nothing fancy, heavy, and runs old technology thru-and-thru. Oh well, I am happy so far.

Now, if I can only get the crap pumped out of the gas tanks this week......

^^^Good idea. I will mark the shaft and see where it ends up.

Word of advice, don't let your boat sit with empty tanks for 1+yrs while you complete your project. Or at least clean all the dirt out of the fuel before draining.

I do love having that camera to investigate things such as this:

Easy to do if the only option was say a 1.36 or 1.5, but it pretty hard to tell the difference between a 1.5 and 1.47 , or 1.58. Youll have to mark the shafts precisely and watch closely. A .03 change in ratio is tight

Give him a ball park idea anyways. Please tell me you don't have to put new tanks in your boat....... WTF is that??

Made to much power again and the old props no longer worked....

I wish people would just put real numbers instead of all these ego driven inflated bull**** numbers. facebook is even worse. I`m here to learn and compare results, can`t do that when a guy says he`s doing 90mph 2 years ago and now according to your slip and pitch your top speed is 93mph but you gained 16 mph from a prop change and you cruise at 60mph when it`s actually 4-5 mph less... and your making so much power your props don`t cruise well.
Some of us know better.

Whatever.

kvogt 06-07-2016 10:18 AM

my math gets him between 97 and 99 mph. Depends on trim and how the slip changes with speed.

MMB does the boat carry better in the rough with the Maximus props.
