Cruise Speed on 46 w 1200s

Just bought 46 had tripples took out and putting 1200 staggard was wandering prop sizes recommended. Top speed , cruising speeds.

seafordguy 04-25-2013 11:35 AM

302sport had a 42 with 1200 cobras - he could at least give you a decent guess on where to start I'd bet.

302Sport 04-25-2013 01:07 PM

Boat would run 120-122 at 6200 very light on fuel and people
Last time I took the boat out in the fall I saw 117 on the GPS with 9 people and a half tank.
I would normally cruise @3800-4000 and run high 70's to 80 depending on trim.
Would peg the limiters with 40's on so switched gears and dropped to 17x33 five blades and the boat ran amazing.

offshoredrillin 04-25-2013 07:18 PM

Which 46 did you get? most of the 46's with staggered 1075's are in the 102-110 range from what I recall, depends on cover-girl or half cover-girl cabin as well as some other amenities. I looked at a few of the triple bravo boats with thought of doing what you are doing, very cool and lots of work. also double check with either Phil or the factory to see if there is any diff in the deck configuration for a triple vs a stagger, like if the engine room is bigger, smaller cockpit, or shortened deck. post some pics.

Thanks for all the info. I hope we have it completed by middle of june. Thats our goal. New interior total refit , new everything. Wish us luck as this will be our 4th and final project x I will guess. Also to answer which boat well all I know is it belonged to a music producer or something it got stripped and boat sat for 3 or 4 yrs. Will post pics of the project. Trying to post transome it was filled, cut and re all gripped this week. Begining of next week comes the goodies.... Will post as we are completing them.

that's awesome, love projects like that. I don't believe other than the obvious triple vs staggered stuff (2 vs 3 of everything rigging related) that the decks and such were different, obviously stringers in the bilge will need to be redone and check for proper x dim. cant wait to see the pics!

Being done by RF in North Carolina right?

ncstark72 04-27-2013 05:53 PM

Yes all of it is being done at RF... oh Nick waz wondering where you were.. call me sometime..

302Sport 04-28-2013 09:33 AM

Is he doing any bottom work, and do the motors make a real 1200??? I'm interested to Ser how fast a 46 cig setup by Reggie will be compared to the rest...

ncstark72 04-28-2013 04:17 PM

When dynoed motors made 1191 at 6300 and 1186 at 6300 they were with out trannies and power steering however they dynoed at 93% made 1200 + lbs of tq. At 4100 . Really looking to cruise at an honest 75 - 80 with out killing the motors. We are expecting some good top end numbers though. 115 -118. Gona see what happens then we might play with the bottom.

Is this your boat? If so it was kept on Lanier and maintained by the shop I used to work at as a kid. Sat out back the last few years due to an outstanding bill. Believe the owners friend ended up paying it and picking it up 2 years ago.

How does yours run?

Excellent, but it's not as fast as Chucks! :D I still have the factory 900 mercs in mine, probably wont put my larger engines in it until there's a need. It still runs over a 100 with people & fuel as is, which is plenty fast for me. If there are any ill manors with these boats, I haven't found them... they just suck around the docks with some current/wind. ;)
