Default What engines were available in a 1973?

I purchased a 1973 28ss and the guy I purchased it from said he believed it came with 302s in it from the factory? He did not say weather they were Ford or Chevy? I do know the boat came with Volvo drives on them. What engines were available from Cig. in 73?

In 73' if it had a Volvo on the back They were most likely a GM product. The only Ford Product/Volvo was Waukesha. Mercruiser was still with ford and that would have been the 188/233 engine number 1 Drive. Hope this helps.

Tom is VERY knowledgeable and is correct. I had a 1974 28 SS. I bought it in 1981. It came from the factory with 260 HP 350 CI Chevy's (silver blue in color) and had Volvo 270T drives. Tom - Were the Chevy engines, if my memory serves me correctly, called Crusaders?

Crusader Scorpion.

270T is a Volvo 270 drive with the ability to trim it
I think that year the other option was a 280- TRS Merc Pkg.
