85 Mistress mid summer repower.....:)

My 85 Mistress has 460 MArk IV engines with a few small mods, ran a best of 64.8 one time, I wanna see over 70.... anything over 70 will make me happy...

So, I grabbed a buddys old boat that has 565CI 600hp engines, aluminum heads and all the good stuff, made approx. 650 ftlbs waiting on dyno sheets in mail from last owner...TRS boat...

I am going over a few thin gs and making them the way I want them, using my crossovers, exhaust and such.... ran boat home from island yesterday and had engines out by 10PM.... hope to be back in 2 weeks....

last slow drive by..... 60mph flat water....click first pic for slow video, at least shes LOUD... lol

broke an axle in cleveland. limped it to Benders shop. he lifted the boat off the trailer for me and took the trailer to get 3 new axles made at his friends shop. should be done by the end of the week. gotta run back out and drag it home

jbraun2828 07-23-2013 09:05 AM

Good luck with the re power. 70 is plenty fast on the Great Lakes 90 percent of the time.

Full Force 07-31-2013 08:46 PM

Going to be another week, the builder did not realize Inconel was a good idea, so I ripped them down and I am doing heads real fast, should be putting engines in Sunday if all goes well, be in next weekend I hope!!

cheech 07-31-2013 10:40 PM

Force, the cherry pickers go high enough to get em out of the boat? They jacked all sky high?

No, I use tow motor, but cherry picker almost could.... its a very heavy duty home made one...

Drake22.250 08-01-2013 06:59 AM

Force should hit over 70, cherry picker wouldn't do it when we pulled 502's out. My project is moving slower than I want. Wifes busting my balls about not running this year. Going to look at a 72 magnum sport this Sunday boy she's gonna be pissed but she didn't say what we were going to be running in!!! The stuff we do to keep our better halfs happy.

Don't expect a ton today, I will be baselining with the 27 hydromotives the engines had on them when in the Scarab, the next bigger set I have is 24P 3 blades, labbed up a little, the engines top at 5200 on dyno..

ran 64 with the 24P 3 blades with old power @48-4900...

flysfloatsor 08-11-2013 12:55 PM

What did it run!!!???

Full Force 08-11-2013 02:34 PM

Dunno yet have a slipping Trans....

Full Force 08-11-2013 04:56 PM

And los another axle on my trailer coming home, FML wtf

Biggus 08-11-2013 07:58 PM

Bummer. FWIW, never found Hydromotives to work on a Cig. A pair of 25 Mirage Plus 3 blades would be my choice.

I only ran the 4 blade to baseline the combo to see what changed from Scarab, didn't get that far...

When I ran Scarab back the guy said trans had a leak, I looked at it, looked wet on top bu the vent, I figured he was just over filling, there was also gauges for pressure, well once I lost fluid enough it slipped a little in Scarab, put fluid in seemed ok but didn't beat on it, figured all was well, so I put it all in Cig, was fine went slowly to 4200, slipped, so I throttled back, checked fluid, looked good and clean, then would not go past 3000 then slips, so I guess when it slipped in Scarab that was it.... so out comes STBD. engine this Tuesday...

Then to top it off, wiped axle in trailer, so ya today sucked!!!

88bullet 08-11-2013 08:30 PM

bummer!! been down that road before... on the 90.. Mentor exit to be exact lol

Lost middle bearing and looks like it waste spindle, I had it happen last year on one, replaced whole axle setup... then one spindle broke off front axle, so that's new... this was the one I didn't get to yet..... WTF

Trailer is 89 Myco, shes old..... almost new now though...

MILD THUNDER 08-11-2013 09:08 PM

I had a axle snap on my 89 myco. Got it directly from dexter for like 125 bucks or so. Few years back now.

Full Force 08-11-2013 09:13 PM

The whole axle? 6" drop?

????? same one??

MILD THUNDER 08-11-2013 09:17 PM

Yes sir. Actually they warrantied the axle since it broke at the weld where the spindle meets the tube. It was a drop axle. I had to pay the 125 or so, then send the old failed weld in, and they reimbursed me. Not bad considering it was a 1989! They said that it was considered a manufacturing defect. Myco wanted like 400 plus shipping for the axle. Dexter built it and had it to me in a few days

MILD THUNDER 08-11-2013 09:29 PM

Yea same style. I don't have any of my dimensions handy, but it was a 5200lb drop style. Just came with the brake flange and I had to reuse my drums/bearings, etc. my trailer is a 1989 myco triple axle steel, 6 on 5.5 drums, etc.
