Looked good yesterday

We did a little tuning Friday. She's just running better and better each time out. No more plug fouling, AFR's are much better, idles great, planes at 3500 easily, and running a consistant 80mph. Theres more mph in her yet. Props still too big and a bit rich yet on fuel. Engines only turning about 5200WOT, and they need some rpm. But one thing at a time!

I had some chop under the hull and still could only pull 5200ish rpm.. the 651 cam really likes more rpm...so I figure since the props have a BBlades number on them maybe they can tell me if some more work to them could get a me a few more rpm, or that they would know what work they did.. you know, the whole reason they stamp a number on them.
The guy looks up the number and tells me yeah those are 17.5 x 28..thats all the info we have on em.. ummm no **** Sherlock, thanx for all that great infomation. :picard1:

Call Brett at BBlades he can help you out with it. I am sure he can loosing them up a bit. How much more rpm are you looking for? Maybe a shortie is in the cards for you, especially if you are boating in a lot of flat water.

Based on your numbers, I would suggest trying a 26p prop, this should get your RPM up to about 5600 at the same speed. The midrange will be stronger and the props will be a little easier on your drives as well. Since you seem to boat in flatter water and your boat seems to like the bow lift, I would also suggest going to an 18° rake.

The only problem with going to 26p props is I think you'll find yourself at or on the limiters (I don't know what your max RPM is) if you're running light or in faster water. Assuming your max RPM is 5800 and your slip holds true, switching to the 26p props will limit you to about 83 mph at 5800 rpm. If you think the boat has more speed in it than this, you might want to try a 27p, or even consider a 27p with a slightly smaller diameter.

Now that you added spacers what's your propshaft height? Now that its running better and planing easy you could take spacers back out?

Assuming you are 1.5 ear ratio and turning 28 4 blades if you can turn them 5400rpms at 14% slip you are at 82mph.
