I'd think low 60s

Unlimited jd 02-04-2014 07:14 AM

No slower than it would of been when it was new with 420's or 400 cyclones.

I sold a 1993 38TG (on consignment) a few years back that someone had dropped a set of 7.4 LX's in. The boat was apparently slated to get 6's and 800's but ended up bank owned. It was a real performer with the 7.4's!!! :drink:

Those are MPI Mags in the picture, not a bad engine

Propped right say 62-63 in fresh water. Maybe 64 in right conditions. Just my guess. I have 525's & run 72-73 as long as water isn't totally flat.

I like the paint job!

There is a red 38 gun of the same vintage that runs our lake. 454s with 250 blowers twin carb, trs drives, runs 67 tops.

36Envision 02-04-2014 04:24 PM

Is that a TG? Looks like a flat deck to me.

Motors in that TG were 7.4 LX engines, Mercruiser didn't build them long. 330hp. They were not the 454 MAG MPI 385hp.

You are right it is a flat deck. If I'm right the TG didn't come out until 1987?

Close; in '86 Cigarette built both flat deck 38's and Top Gun 38's.

242LS 02-04-2014 07:37 PM

Slow Top Guns are still Top Guns. ....plus, this is a good looking TG that will start every time you want to use it! (that means the average speed of this TG is higher than the average speed of blown TGs that sit on the trailer with engine issues)

My bad, I never knew that merc made an lx 7.4 with that style of intake. I've only seen the tbi and truck plenum style

turbo rr 02-04-2014 08:29 PM

I remember when that boat was for sale here without power.....sold in less than a day.

I could've sworn it was 87 that you could buy both? Pretty sure "first gun" is a 87 with no notch.

Isn't that the old ohio steel boat that ports put of Kelleys Island?

welfare racing 02-05-2014 07:50 PM

Cigarettes are slow like Harleys.....remember no matter where they are seen they are stylish....when you are at the bar, its all about looks and sounds, not always about speed

was it sandbagger?

Rick G 02-06-2014 02:33 AM

Before I bought my flat deck I tried to buy Sandbagger less power and drives. Clean boat just couldn't come together on a price.

Unlimited jd 02-06-2014 05:26 AM

Yeah it was. The guy left it uncovered and it went to hell. Wasn't clean at all when I bought it

i will be the first to admit, i own one of the slower top guns around (72-73 mph tops)...having said that she is turn key reliable (500 EFI's) and economical to own. if i wanted a fast boat i wouldnt be in a flat bottom boat, end of story. fact is there are always faster boats out there...so to compete is pointless. we get where we need to go and look good doing it!!! "1"

Im building one with 500 EFI's, so I guess we'll both be slow, ha what yr. is yours & drives ?

Unlimited jd 02-06-2014 11:51 AM

His is a 94, redone in 06. Notched transom drives look to be abou 5-6" below the bottom.

F-2 Speedy 02-06-2014 12:27 PM

thanks red, so is it a bravo boat

Unlimited jd 02-06-2014 12:57 PM

Yes bravo xr's

1MOSES1 02-06-2014 02:25 PM

as mentioned she isnt the fastest, but with 26's she is out of the hole pretty quick and pulls hard in the mid range. all in all the perfect package for us....i can try to post pictures tonight.

the first top gun was an 86 and the owner of the first gun goes by the name "first gun" on here. it has a red and white paint scheme, similar to a 90 mph.

Unlimited jd 02-06-2014 07:02 PM

I know the boat, that's why it's in quotes referring to the boat.
