In 2012 I contracted a well respected surveyor to carry out an insurance survey on one of my six pack (uninspected vessel) Parasail boats. I wasnt able to be present at the time , but he was able to complete survey. I contacted him later that day to check on results and his quote was " she's a well put together machine ". He informed me I would receive a detailed report ( complete with c/d ,pictures ect. ) in a few days. Several days later , I received the well prepared , professionally done survey in the mail . Unfortunately , the gentleman surveyed a customers Parasail boat that was in the yard for a complete transom replacement , repaint , and repower . But it sure looked good in the pictures ! TRUE STORY!!!

How did those Vins match up.

Lately I have dealt with a few Surveyors and if the boat isn't a half million or better they are flying through them.

I had a surveyor I met when I was taking care of a gentlemans 44 ketch years ago . Needed a survey for insurance..After digging around this guy was highly recommended , So anyways i was running about 20 minutes late and the boat had a few problems that definitely needed to be addressed and i wanted to assure him they would be. Well anyways I show up 20 minutes later and he is getting in his car when i see him. I go hey whats up he goes ALL GOOD . I said what time you get here he said 20 minutes ago but I surveyed this boat a few years ago and it was in great shape so done . You got the check for $660 ?

Went on board the boat and I had a few area where tool boxes were blocking access to major machinery that needed to be inspected. nope never even looked at it.

Call the owner saying the survey is all good but this guy said it was just done a few years ago.His secretary sends me the latest one they had and it was 10 years old.and that is the surveyors latest findings.

Here I was sweating some projects not done and the surveyor could have cared less just give me my check.

Also we have a brokerage down by us that flips alot 50 to 150 thousand older cruisers that I have been on before they were sold that were 10 minutes from blowing up or sinking and the surveys come back cherry.

If a boat has flotation foam in it can a moisture meter get accurate readings through the hull upwards? usually the foam is dry near the floor and wet at the bottom

Iced I don't see the point of the repeated bashing but I can tell you that as a rookie I feel that OSO is a unique community that seeks to assist boaters and expose scammers. Calling out an embellished add is a service to the community and when the embellisher decides to continue the misinformation instead of acknowledging it and moving on, it brings out the wolves.

Personally I think its a valuable service and within the boating community we should do our best to keep each other honest because there are already enough rip off artists. Everyone was a rookie at some point.

The synopsis of it all is that, he knew more then all of us, was going to show us how to do it rite, why it's take so long to do a job when all I need is a month, then all the BS fully restored, all custom, turn key, professional shop. Enough with the bull already stop you lieing banter and story's. That's the point of all this. And inform potential buyers to he real condition. And if said buyer purchases the boat, they will have a good basis of knolage and background to do so, educatadedly not off lies, smoke, mirrors, and shinny (as I'm told not that I've seen it,) paint
