This Phil and his boat remind me of a kid that was 2 years older than me when I was in high school ..Delusional.
I was 16 and redoing a Rust bucket 69 Roadrunner and ran around with 3 other friends who had cars also. Of the 3 cars being all from Michigan and 15 years old 2 of them were rust buckets also. While I cut out all the rust and formed and brazed in more metal than the car had left my 2 buddies proceeded to slap bondo and paint on theirs over a weekend and were running while I tolled away for the better part of a half a year to reach the point of quality that was still not to my satisfaction but good enough. Anyways my buddies would swing on by and visit with their good from 100 foot cars while I toiled away on my vision of perfection and kidded that I would be to old to drive before my car was finished , and it was all in good fun and we would go off in their cars on the weekends. Now they knew their cars were far from perfect and didn't care as they were satisfied with them and all they wanted to do was be out Hotrodding.as though their bodies were shabby they both had some really healthy and great running engines in them. And they were the first ones to admit their bodies were shabby. Enter the character of this story. So now enters a older high school acquaintance of ours who has a nothing special in year or body type Mustang with a totally stock 302 with a 3 speed. Also the body work and paint done over a weekend in the garage that was a 100 footer . But the way he told the story he couldn't keep the tires from spinning from that badass 500 horse 302 that idled like my grandmothers K car and he didn't need a 4 speed as the car was to fast with the 3 speed as it was. And the paint ? Holy Chit he was going to enter it in Auto Rama he thought it was so perfect. Well this guy believed everything he did was the baddest .fastest best thing since sliced bread.. And if you dare speak other wise he would beat you to a pulp. But as i grew older I realized he was not a Bullchiter as I originally thought but was mentally Delusional. To him everything he touched was perfect because no one dared tell him any different . |

So now what do people think would be a fair price????
"well, its gonna need full external steering, thats gonna cost 3-4g. its gonna need a entire new set of gauges, and panels, and switches. Probably another 2-3k there. The drives are extremely corroded from saltwater, and the skegs are chopped off. A nice used clean set of freshwater TRS drives, another 3-4k. The trailer, ehh, I suppose I could have it blasted, repainted, and drop 2-3k in that. So, lets see, I pay 29k for it, lay down another 10ish, and can probably hit the lake and have some fun for around 40k. Oh wait, the engines. When was the last time they had a freshen up? How about the transmissions? Maybe they'll last, maybe they wont. I better budget another 10-15k for repower. Dam, Im gonna have 50k + in this thing easy.Oh, and I'll need 20k+ cash in my boat account to do this. Maybe I should look for a boat thats ready to go, and save myself some headaches". The guys who think like this ^^^^, are simply tire kickers according to Phil. They know nothing. I am sure Phil will correct me, and say how he could sand and paint the drives, weld some skegs on for 100 bucks. How he can piece together a steering system for 800 bucks, and rebuild both engines properly for 3k dollars.. |
The new ad is more horrific then the old. Plain and simple he has no business tech or descriptive skills. No potential buyer will call with 1/2 a brain. Phil call me I will get the boat sold through honest, accurate, we'll lauded out and descriptive listing. Along with a current market price that will be aggressive yet fair.
How that for a hater |
I've got both my motors in the garage right now as a result of an oil pan full if water, and was looking around in my boat at what it is going to take to really make it right and as you say, it's staggering. It's staggering and my boat is 50 times closer to being a good starting point.
Drives need reprinting, tabs need repainting, new indicator cables, platform needs powdercoating, gauges, converting to freshwater cooling, new fuel hoses, new hoses for the external steering, powdercoating some of the grab bars, etc..... It's thousands on thousands just to get it to an 8-9. That boats a 3 |
If I read that new add with the nice picture of the boat. It would get my interest, but when I got there and seen the pile of crap he is selling I would be ready to choke him out for wasting my time...
Rerigg my ass, you wired in a couple fuel pumps.. This guy is straight up shaddy and he will never change. |
Hey Phil Glassdave has an apprenticeship program we can even arrange housing....

Know one seems to mention that most likely the forward stringers are shot by the telltale signs of all the cracks by the strakes in the forward section which is a known problem as mentioned by some one else on this thread 30 pages ago.
