Isn't the 3 2 inches longer Than a trs? Why would you want to use the same drive height with a speed master ? Wouldn't you want to take advantage of the the much better prop selection that they offer and try to run it higher ? It would probably run slower if kept the same drive height .
My fountain came with TRS. When they re rigged it with #4's, they actually lowered the engines a little. I forget the exact amount, but like 1 or 2 inches lower. This put my propshafts with the 4's, two inches below the bottom. I would have preferred they didnt lower the engine mounting height, with todays prop technology.
Nice thing about the IV and V drives, is they were meant to be surface drives. Take a look at the skegs on a #4/5, then look at the skegs on a 3 or 3A. Youll see the skegs on the 4/5 are much larger. This was for high speed stability and handling. The 3 and 3A's werent really meant to be surface piercing, although many have done it.
As far as the boat running slower, say going from a TRS to a #3, without raising the engine height, I agree. Mainly, because the 3 is going to take more power to turn with the larger gears, large oil capacity, and larger diameter props being buried in the water. Just like how most TRS boats run the best top speed with little bitty 3 blade mirage props. Deeper the drives, smaller the diameter you want. 18'' SSM props have no business on a setup that the propshafts are 4-5" below the bottom.

here ya go fellas. A SSM III/IIIA crank to prop centerline is 24.25''. A SSM IV/V, is 18.69. So, a IV/V drive, is 5.56" shorter than the #3 setup.

Tommy WTF, I dont have everything. lol
I cant say for sure. But, If my memory is right, its something like 25'' crank to prop centerline.
Wheres Phil?? Hey Phil, would you mind cleaning the overspray off your tape measurer and measuring your TRS crank to propshaft distance?

I think the 3 is a 1/8 inch shorter. Either way you mount it the same height its going slower... I mounted them as high as I could on my 10 meter.I would love to see phil try to attach one to the transom assembly.ATTACH=CONFIG]531049[/ATTACH]

Can you even make money flipping boats? If this kid has this much money to throw around he should start flipping houses!

Flipping boats hell no, painting them there could be but I don't think the quality is there yet, sure looks good sitting at the dock, so does mine, but the detail is what he lacks... Mine has tons of flaws but looks just fine.... It's also factory and had not need redone at all... 29 years old I think it looks great. But far from perfect for sure
