I work my ass off all weekend to get em in for Memorial Day and .....
I`m having some fun with them starters!
Last year every once in a while the original starters would ZING the flywheel. I figured time for some new starters might as well go high TQ since they won`t start of one battery.
Got new starters 6 months ago
First, one of them wouldn`t retract.. back to IMI.
Few months later the engine are back together and the new starters still ZING the flywheel .. spend hours trying to figure out WTF is going on.
Send em back to IMI so they could increase the throw of the starters since I`m only getting .020 of engagement.
Month goes by..
Get em back for last weekend, engines start great.

Tow the boat to downtown, spend some time adjusting carbs at the launch.. starters working great, everything else is lookin good.

Cold lake so we spend some time building up oil temp before getting on plane...start to get on plane and at 3, 000rpm ....sparks!
Starters are hot as hell and now dead, can`t restart either engine.

Tow boat USA shows up, I fall in the water ya dy yady jadda. the starters are on their way back to IMI. (now they are in too deep and never disengaged)

I love boats!!! GOOD TIMES!

You falling overboard was pure awesomeness. Almost as good as me trying to squeeze into that life preserver you gave me. What was that a childrens small? I think after you fell in, just about everyone else on board got clotheslined by either the tow rope or anchor line. It was a real $hitshow out there. Engines sounded great though!

That sucks How is the ring gear now? Make sure your didn't loose any teeth. Your motors should start with good stock starters. I would ditch them high torques. Everyone I know that has them has issues eventually.

Hope it works out.

I'm sticking with my old school top mount starters . I've owned three boats in the last 10 years with those and never had one go bad.
