The 42X has great lines but when they started putting the big turbo hatch on it that changed the look of it not in a good way (too high). It makes the boat look shorter than it is. If you build one, I would go with the 1100's and the original low pro hatch so you keep those nice lines, very fast and run on 89 oct.

Thx Ktron, the 1100's appear to be the same physical size as the 1350 only notable difference is the 1100 has a single throttle body the 1350 has a dual throttle body. I hear ya and agree on the hatch though.

Just an FYI, the hatch on my friends 42X was made more for airflow than clearance. The Turbo motors need a lot of air in and around them.

Have not seen a new cig build on OSO in a couple years. Yours may have been the last one that was posted. If you go through with it please share it again. BTW, as nice as your 39 came out, I'm looking forward to seeing the next one.

Hey 39 Unlimited,

I can't comment on the 42X, but I have a decent amount of time on the 39 w/ 1100's with my uncle who built the boat. The boat is blisteringly fast, and accelerates like a rocketship - especially in the midrange - while still being incredibly stable. The m8's certainly help in that regard as well. Also, I believe that you're correct in that the 1100 is the same size as the 1350.

As for the hatch, take a look at his boat. He built his boat specifically wanting to keep the hatch as low as possible, and that led to the design with larger intakes on either side. It does cut down on the size of the sun pad, but it is pretty close to the height of the hatch on the 700 boats! It I'm not mistaken, cig built at least one 42X with the same design.

If I were building a new 1350 powered cig to be run in open water, I would w/o a doubt go with the 42x (or even 46) over the 39. The extra length makes a significant difference when it comes time to lay all that power down to the water in anything but calm conditions.

I've seen several different 42X hatch styles with the turbo motors, all reduced sun pad area. Heard there was a 42X w/1100's at the Lake Lanier Poke Run last weekend, does anyone know the owner? Would like to speak with him if possible.

Gary,
Talk to Bud about the 42. He seems to like the 39 better in big water.
Although as someone mentioned, the 42 cockpit is way better. The 39 cockpit is a disappointment to me with its low freeboard. Very windy ride.

I just stumbled across this thread and I'm both surprised and interested. I'm getting that itch that only a new boat can cure and I really like the 42X. I've crawled around on the 39 and it just doesn't have the cockpit room that I'm used to with my A.T. but I'm guessing the 42 would have.

There's a 42x in Port Clinton that's at a powersport at boat shop, etc. It's listed with suncoast here in Oso classifieds if you wanna check one out. Has some salt issues but noting major. I like the amount of room they have and hull design. Don't waste your time putting a offer in salespeople they are douche bags. Offered them what they were asking took all my information and never returned a call. One of those it's forsale but it's not forsale waste your time deals.
