I have a V Lift, and it's a pretty good setup.

Depth, about 3-4ft of water...
The 4 tank system(pictured) holds 7000lbs @ $8000
I believe the 6 tank system; 11000lbs, probably $10k?
Nicest part is, it just ties up to the dock. No hardware installation.

I purchased mine used 16000 lbs for less than half off a new one from http://dockrealty.org in MO. You can figure buying new will cost 1 dollar per pound. also if you want new again in MO there is a place called Drew Lift that builds real nice lifts at a great price. I am moving my boat to Pickwick at end of season, selling my lift here and getting Drew Boat Lifts to build one for me with a FULL walkaround. http://dockrealty.org/search/Process...?DLS_Num=42320 and http://drewlift.com/
