Carpe Diem take 2
#14
Mercury labbed 173/4 x 28 4 blades.
If I were to set that boat up it would still be higher, Id like to be running top speed with drives level , right now that was 80mph and 5300rpm. Had to go all the way to 8 on the trim to get the rpms up and gain speed. That tells me still a bit too deep but I`m fine with it as is.
I realize the steam coming out of the breather could possibly be the condensation in the oil or possibly I haven`t gotten all the water after the intake gasket leak.
To that one dude that keeps talking $hit about the progress of this boat , and all he took away is that the oil might be getting too hot lets get something straight.
This is the $hit I started with:
1. Leaking oils pans
2. Incorrect block plugs
3. Incorrect trans cooler routing
4. Incorrect bellhousing dowels
5. Incorrect dampener plate
6. Incorrect exhaust heads studs
7. Incorrect rocker aligment
8. Secondary powervalves
9. 8470 rod bolts
10. Oil pan crushed by race plate and rubbing thru.
11. Oil pan bolts too long, two locks washers used
12. Incorrect valve cover bolts
13. 1994 and 1999 distributers, one automotive one marine.
14. Straight 50 weight oil too thick for lifters per manufacturer causing oiling issues.
Valve train:
1. Springs sitting on shims not locators or springs cups eating up shims.
2. 155lbs spring pressure insufficient for lifters and set up.
3. No back cutting on valves.
4. Incorrect rocker alignment caused side loading of intake rocker guides.
5. Leakage between cylinders
6. Wrong spark plugs causing timing retard and sky rocketing the EGt`s
7. Timing so retarded EGT`s so high valve almost burned up.
8. Harmonics of valvetrain so bad the inner spring dampner was eating away at the valve seal.
9. At least one exhaust valve hanging up per side due to the high EGT`s.
15. Bellhousing cooler bolts too short only engage 1/3”
16, Leaking headers
I got this boat with busted drives, couldnt get on plane for $hit, AFRs in the 9`s , took 5 minutes to get to 70mph and at the end of season both motors almost were "5 minutes away from disaster" per High Flow Heads.
Me and Joe fixed all that mess and she keeps getting better every year.
Its been a long road but I tried to be the bigger man and shake the mans hand who handed me this mess and I got snuffed. ok thats fine. See I can talk $hit too.
