Didn't price 1350's but I don't think it's that much more. Fuel was the issue with me. Love the fact that the 1100's take 89. Slightly less radical as well.
I rode in a 1350 42X in 2013 and never really got over it. We were at the Cigarette rendezvous was offered a ride during the lunch event. Was so impressed after the ride I had Legendary Marine load my 39 TG back on the trailer. |
What's the expected top speed?
|
I think 1350's over 1100's are like 40-50K more..

The 1100s are available with 6's as well if i recall. Are the earlier issues with the 8's a thing of the past?
In general, I believe the 1100 / 6 package performs great. We choose the M8 for gear options and acceleration. My information source is Bud at Cigarette and Mercury Racing consider both subject matter experts. |

A 42x with 1100's should run in the lower to mid 120's. With that said, we have a 42x with 1100's and it only runs 107... I'm not sure why it's not much faster.

Congratulations Gary, hope to see it next summer! Do you know where your 39 is going yet?

Yes, the 1100's come with a choice of #6's or M8's. My understanding is Mercury only offers the 1100 / 6 package with the 1:50 gears to protect the drive. The M8 gives you gear ratio choices and a much stronger bottom end. In addition, the M8 is 2" shorter which allows the engines to be mounted lower in the boat, this helps the CG. There have been no issues that I know of with the new generation M8. They have also redesigned the M8 lower to make it more hydrodynamic. Honestly, I like the look of the 6 drive much better.

Hum...been told 114-118 MPH. Props, fuel payload weigh and elevation changes are the wildcards as I understand it. I have been on a 42X w/1350's at 125 MPH. Acceleration was unreal, felt like a Pro Stock drag car.

Well the guys at Cig would clearly knowbeter than I would, but if the 42x boats with 700's routinely run just a tick under 100 mph, bumping the same boat up to 1100's SHOULD raise the speed up into the mid to lower 120's (all things being equal). Looking forward to not only seeing your new rig, but also seeing what it runs!

I would think 120-125 easily. Does the 50 run 125+ with 1350's?
American Muscle II was advertised as 118 but took lots to see 110+ I been on it...QUOTE]
The 46's with 1075's run 110 all day, obviously a little more with a light load, but I would be shocked to see a stock 1075 46 cig run 118. |
Congrats Gary! I'm pretty sure Linnie is as excited as you are! Looking forward to watching your build.

I think you should see 120 out of it with the right props. The few 1075 42s out there ran 115-116. With these boats it not always about how fast it goes but how it goes fast. Nothing like being able to take your hands off the wheel at 100. The boat is absolutely on rails. You are going to love it. |

Easy decisions first. Engine colors:

My 42 with 1200's ran 121 but they weren't Mercs so it's hard to compare as the Mercs always seem to run strong for their HP rating. The boat was on rails up to about 110, then you had to drive it.

Cngrats man, going to be an awesome

boat,
|
Nice choice on power. Cannot wait to see some pics. Oh by the way GO BUCKS
|
Here are a few facts about my friend Bob's 42X with 1100's.
The boat runs 120+ all day long and he has seen 125. The boat has just shy of 300 hours and is getting a full rebuild both engines and drives. He bought the boat with roughly 150 hours on it. The drives alone cost $30K each and the gears were completely shot. I am not allowed to disclose the cost of the engine rebuilds. He is getting a substantial break through some connections over normal and that is all I can say. By far, that boat is my favorite stand up V I have ever been in. |
Wow Gary I just came across this thread and all I can say is Congrats. I loved the old boat and can't wait to see the new one.
|
Just seen this thread also. Congrats!!! Awesome boat, good choice on colors and power! Nice job!
|
Spoke with Cigarette today sounds like Project X is in the mold.
|
What a fun project that will be and I'm sure it will turn out beautiful. Hope they will take lots of pictures of the build for you and can't wait to see it when finished.
|
Can't wait to see it Gary.
|
Subscribed to see it in progress.
