My Flat Deck transom replacement and paint project
5 Attachment(s)
Well it all started out 3 years ago. We were building new blower motors and when I had the exhaust out I noticed some rotted wood. A transom replacement at this point was out of the question. After spending a bunch of money on the engines and that the engines were already back in the boat, it was on to plan B. Plan B was to dig out as much rot as I could and fill it with a penetrating epoxy. So far so good on my plan. The past 3 years everything has gone great with the boat with other upgrades happening every winter. Now I have to take some time for the transom. Just recently I have gone down to the storage building and started the disassembly process and getting some ideas on how I want to re-rig the engine compartment. As for the paint, I plan to continue the blue to the rear of the boat and transom.

looks like a couple of us have lots of work to do!!! I should paint my bilge black then I won't see the oil leaks lol
Keep pics coming, look forward to it, and good luck! |
Dislike!!!!!
Are you going to raise the X dimension while you're in there ???? :drool1: |
Thanks man. We sure do! That's the reason its black. It always looking clean and all the polished aluminum stands out a little more.

LOL what do you dislike??? Nope its staying. I would have to build new hatches

Kept it 3 years with soft transom? Did not leaked? Or flexed? Nothing broke while using it?
|
From reading the above you are going to jump right into the transom removal. I have contemplated project boats that needed a transom, but don't know if I could swing it. Have you done this before or am I just thinking there's more to it than there really is?

It might have been longer not sure. I would get a slight bit of water but nothing out of the ordinary, and no cracks, nothing ever broke. There were no signs until the removal of the exhaust

I'd be willing to bet there are a lot more boats out there with rotted transoms or stringers that don't know it .
I'm sure when sonic700 is all done it will be solid again! |
