I went ahead cut the basic shape out and drilled the head pattern, I will end up filling the holes back in but for now I need them, after cutting the pattern and drilling it I mounted it to get a level line for the top and the height I want where the 90 will end up being, one thing I do not like is spacers on brackets the bracket needs to be spaced out so I will actually incorporate that in the casting instead of spacers like are used on the oil filter bracket.

Next was to put a riser in the back to compensate for the offset in mounting, I marked the area I wanted to raise oversize cut a piece of wood to glue on to it, I taped the back side of holes and put tape on my Granite to keep the glue off while it dries, That's all for the day ill get more pics tonight of progress if the glue is dry.

Got a couple hours in on the pattern last night, you can see the riser on it and sanded to shape now the bracket will clear KE or most valve covers without using spacers

I cut a top plate that will mount the MSD box and fitted it to back of the pattern

I used a piece of machined square stock to hold the top plate to the back square while the glue dries, and that's it for a couple days of drying

It does look like that, they were free I just use them for mock up ill have to see if they are not sure to be honest
|
Took a better look its just a scratch from sitting around they are the as cast ones at some point I might use them for more than mock up figured I better investigate

The glue was dry on the pattern last night so I bolted it up, fits where I want it and will clear factory rear mount oil coolers and aftermarket valve covers without shims, on the pattern the back does not meet the top on the sides I added those last night it is to add strength to the pattern so the top is woven in with the back (not just glued on top) it needs to be strong so it does not break when pouncing it in sand. When I cast these they will be solid but I will machine the actual part after I cast them so they are a skeleton type part.

Light sanding and some filler I primed it also last night so hopefully its dry enough for a wet sand and one more coat if so ill do a test mold and pour this weekend
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...psllotgq7n.png http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...pstp1n0psn.png |
I put a couple coats of primer on the pattern but I needed to try and mold it before I go any further incase there is not enough draft in the part, if there is not enough draft the part will not pull from sand.
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...psz8yymzfj.png http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...psdns0f6ui.png |
We had a good pull now I can get a few coats of paint on and wet sanding this will take a few days as cold as it is for the paint to dry in between coats, the pattern when done will need to be shiny and perfectly smooth so it pulls easy and the petrobond sand mix I use will show every detail, I can pull a fingerprint with that stuff.
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...psa9fcmhw9.jpg http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...pszwpihaxm.png |
This is the first coat of paint, I will have wet sand and repeat till part is perfect the edges of the wood really soak up the first few coats. When the part is finished I think I am going to mount my coils in this location
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...pshfakilpb.png |
Made the actual first part from this pattern, came out good for a first pour I think I will hit it a little harder next time to have more head pressure but a nice first part.
As cast http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...psvvhixvqj.jpg http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...psuejxukli.png Flashing removed and drilled http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...psjgjvuscx.png |
Originally I was going to cut the center out but after a discussion on it decided to leave it as is, the part is solid enough for mounting a oil filter adaptor coil etc.
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps4pkecosn.jpg http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...psifjbdg5q.jpg |
A few shots mounted not sure the finish I will put on them yet, they will clear valve covers without spacers also fits rear mount OE oil coolers, this is just belt sanded and edged I will throw it in the vibratory for about a hour.
The tops are taped for 10-32 so the MSD vibration mounts just thread in. http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps9nnwntxp.png http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...psohgksokn.jpg http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...psllevfxh6.png |

Just read your thread CPM, you do really nice work. The white hull is 100% better too!! Look forward to seeing your progress.

Last night I was casting some parts and on my bench was one of the plastic clam shell covers off the back of my boat I decided for fun to pounce one out and see how it would mold and pour, this is by no means a useful part but just testing the waters with it and after looking at it I think I will clean up a plastic one and turn it into a pattern and make a few. It would fit the factory holes and look a lot better

Life's been busy and haven't posted anything I did not even come close to doing what I wanted to on the old Café this winter so I decided I wasn't going to pull the engines this year and just put the 177's on and clean things up so last weekend I dove in I have some general clean up done the blowers on I still need to get the Oil filters rear mounted and MSD Brackets on and ignition done, I want to move drive fluid reservoir and clean up wiring should be done in another week.

Took it out this weekend runs good turning 30's at 6000 feet

Thanks, I wanted to do more but I do not want the boat down and I was getting real bored in the Bayliner... it took me 3 weeks a couple hours a night to do the fallowing changes. Blowers 177 installed 2.66 upper pulley's Carbs 1000HP's annular with 90 primary 99 secondary No PV Idles 800 and 700 in gear dockability is great!! MSD Ignitions with the brackets I cast Timing set at 32* total Filters are some import Die Cast Polished with a KN element I was going to roll some stainless mesh and spot weld it but was out of time... Moroso Under Ultra 40 wires Cleaned up the front of engine, moved drive reservoir to transom oil filters to rear head and water separator's to stringers. Massive electrical cleanup Full service remove drives service. |
What's the HP now? What speeds you seeing?
Ready to sell?? ;) |
HP would just be a guestimate but it is turning 30's easy hardly any throttle to get on plane as for top speed I haven't opened it up yet, last weekend was the first time out and did mainly lake testing watching things and adjusting carb along with plug reading I did pull it up to 4500 and still had plenty of room to go, I might try some 32's and see how it does. Everything is for sale!! but I will probably keep this for a couple more years before I put any effort in selling it.

We won't be buying until next year most likely. But a cafe, 33 outlaw and a 36 concept cc are the short listers. |
Noticed I hadn't shown the block off finished, making some other parts now but not sure where I would post them MSD bracket will be available soon from Hardin CP and KE

Ran into a issue on the boat, @ WOT it will suck the bowls dry has good fuel PSI just cant deliver also the starboard engine has a little blow by I started getting it ready to pull last night going to do a quick rering probably take me a week an ill be back on the water
|
Pulling things apart on Café decided to do some major clean up, I knew that would happen if I took the engines out some issues with hardware and salt, for those who do not know the boat it Originally was in San Diego and the hardware took its toll in my opinion, also I might sell the 177's and put some 8-71's on the boat is real strong now but its just how I am drives my wife crazy....

Been a while Ill post some progress pics when I dig back into this old girl, I took the engine out for a freshening decided to install aluminum heads take it 4.500 (509) and JE Pistons with zero gap rings, my buddy Scott also hooked me up with a Hardin full hyd steering system I will post detailed pics of the installation, I'm not sure but I might post the 177's for sale and install some Blower Shop 8-71's no paint money this year so a wet sand and buff was in order

Been a while since I've been on getting ready to repower the old Café, I bought these for a decent deal so I'm going to freshen these up with some new drives and hope they stay on |
|
The boat was running amazingly strong with the 509's and 177 but I had the smallest pulley made and overspinning the bad with 10.2 comp, I'm turning 32's now so ill definitely be excited to see how these run.
