Cigarette isn't going to build a boat shorter then the 38 anymore

Same cost to layup a 30 vs 38 and just as Tank said, no profit in it. The cost of the early 30, 35, 38 were all close, only big difference was the engine choices.

The Vice came standard with the 496, the 35s had 500efi and the 38's had a choice of the 500, 525sc and 575sc. Hull cost wasn't far off so they ditched the smaller boats.

I still don't understand why the would call two different boats the same. I do agree they are similar, however lot of difference in side by side and staggered .

I believe the "Top Gun" is the best selling model for Cigarette, period. You have to remember they have a international contingent as well. Keeping consistency is important for some of these attributes.

"Ford F-series, the best selling truck of all time."
Even though Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra combined outsells Ford in every number comparison.
I know that's not a direct correlation, but it's related.

Besides, I don't think Cigarette produces too many 38 Top Guns anymore. It's mostly 39s.
There was also the 38 Top Gun GT for a while, which was a lighter optioned, less blingy version.

Pure speculation but suspect the 39 was designed to replace the 38. After introduction they realized how much cockpit space they lost and decided to keep the 38. The 39 is a great boat but five people is the crew limit without standing. The 42X has the same cockpit space as the 39. The 38 has at least 30% more cockpit room than both the 39 and 42X.

Aint that the truth!!! There is a distinct difference in cockpit space. On the other hand, having a staggered setup is 10 times easier to work on than side by sides!!

The staggers are nice to work on for sure. Was a little surprised that the 42X cockpit was no bigger than our 39. It might actually be slightly smaller with the QV4c power.

I was thinking the same thing about the 42 cockpit..... Next time I see a 42 at the dock, I will ask to look around for myself. I have only looked them over from a distance.

I couldn't believe how small the 42 Tiger Cockpit is compared to our 38. I felt cramped on the boat lol
