What is your expected change from the strake changes?

eightsecmopar 03-16-2016 08:31 PM

Who is doing the work Dan?

ICDEDPPL 03-16-2016 09:41 PM

Clyde:

So far great service and pricing.

Little Red:
Speed . Less transom lift should equal more bow lift.

offshorexcursion 03-16-2016 11:18 PM

Looking forward to hearing the good results!

cigrocket 03-17-2016 07:39 AM

I think I need to take a road trip out to Chicago this fall and just drop off my boat off with Dan. You guys are always embarking on some serious projects. I think you get Cabin Fever.

I figure in 3-4 months, we will probably have at least 2-3 more " Cigarette Adventures" documented from ICDEDPPL. This is awesome work and just beyond a love of the sport.

Doing all that bottom work, you might as well just add Steps and make it the first Flat Deck Cigarette TS. Not like you don't like a good project.

Good luck with everything, can't wait to see it all.

kreed 03-17-2016 09:31 AM

I agree with cigrocket. Its awesome to see someone take such pride in an older boat........and NEVER give up on it! This boat has come so far. Nice work Dan. You've done a great job on this boat....its a good thing you don't like money! Hahaha...

I agree with Kreed, I am pretty sure we don't like money. When we have some, we tend to say......I bet I could go faster, look better, ride better, IF........ and then POOF !

kreed 03-17-2016 11:21 AM

^^^^^ Soooooo true. ^^^^^^

Great work Dan . In addition to the stern strake surgery , did consider lengthening the forward strakes to aid in bow lift ? Or would that make it to squirrelly .

Did you look into Nabbers doing the work? Just curious.

I did not consider that but it is a good point. I just don`t know anyone who has done that and what affects it would have. Deleting some of the rear strake has been done before with good results. Our boats do need as much bow lift as possible thou.. hmmmm

Knot For You: I have my reasons, rather not get into it .
With Bowkers, I like the price( a lot) cleanliness of the shop, updates with pictures, communication and he`s done a ton bottoms.etc etc.

Tinkerer 03-17-2016 05:24 PM

Bowkers did that work to my 34 SCARAB - I only gained about 1 MPH but it did settle the transom and helped handling in the rough. He also did all of the work on my Daytona.
He does good work for a fair price.

Full Force 03-17-2016 09:08 PM

love it, if anyone has seen this boat in person it's absolutely amazing looking, just gets better!!

ICDEDPPL 03-17-2016 09:59 PM

Thank penis!

Thanks. I had a hard time trying to get in to Nabbers and when I finally did last fall I bent a rod right before the appt. Always looking for alternatives as few shops here in IL will lift the boat to do the entire bottom.

hogie roll 03-20-2016 01:51 AM

Dang that's far away.

Rick G 03-21-2016 08:58 AM

Dan are you going to round the end of the strake like the front one or just finish it off square ?
Rick G.

ICDEDPPL 03-21-2016 09:46 PM

Looks like he`ll be finishing it square.. Ill know more when it`s done

payuppsucker 03-21-2016 10:44 PM

...

Rick G 03-21-2016 11:50 PM

The only reason i asked is being so close to the transom will it create a disturbance in water flow to props the front ones are rounded for that reason I am guessing .
Just a thought better to consider now before you are finished.
I wonder if the notch I added affectively accomplished the same result as your strake sugary .
Cheers RG.

ICDEDPPL 03-22-2016 12:11 AM

That`s a good point, I`ll bring that up to Martin. Maybe leaving it square acts like a tiny step :p
I`ve always thought the notch was designed to deliver cleaner water to the prop and to allow the engine to be raised even further then normal.

Rick G 03-22-2016 04:46 AM

You are probably right about the notch , it was a thought as the notch affectively reduces the wetted surface at the transom and I thought that might reduce stern lift some what . I am certainly no marine engineer .
RG.

Tinkerer 03-22-2016 08:41 PM

The notch does the same thing as an extension box. And I believe he will end the strake with a sharp square edge. A square edge will cause the water to break clean from the hull. The reason the front one is rounded is it is easier to build the boat that way.

ICDEDPPL 03-23-2016 03:29 PM

Tinkerer is right.

The best way from a performance stand point is the way shown in the photos. Other methods are used throughout the industry, but are typically done to make the boats easier to build and also less mold maintenance

F-2 Speedy 03-23-2016 03:41 PM

Looks good, Im still amazed those little jacks hold the monsters up

Rick G 03-23-2016 05:39 PM

Great work Dan . I see the drives are on , were the motors out during the process and did he reinforce from inside?
RG.

ICDEDPPL 03-23-2016 06:31 PM

Motors are out, I had some typical delamination in the bilge so that`s getting fixed along with a scratch in the paint from an anchor. I don`t see a reason to reinforce anything from the inside . Not his first rodeo so I trust whatever needs to be done will be.

Rick G 03-23-2016 07:07 PM

Sorry Dan , wasn't questioning his workmanship. Just asking one can never learn too much , his work looks great .
RG.

phragle 03-23-2016 07:28 PM

Damn that looks like a lot of work, why not just build a bigger motor?? :party-smiley-004: lol, my boat is coming off the trailer this weekend, bring a longboard....

ICDEDPPL 03-25-2016 02:16 PM

2 Weeks worth of work , all is finished. 30 year old dull bottom full of dings and scraches looking like new again.:bananalove:
Biggest hook was between Strakes, should be a better more efficient ride.

Tinkerer 03-25-2016 10:19 PM

Was that actual delamination or was it just a cosmetic surface coating that cracked. I have seen Where they just coated over existing gellcoat with a new layer.

ICDEDPPL 03-26-2016 12:28 AM

Standard Ciggy tabbing Delamination.
Tim will be happy to hear this but it happened after Lake Erie and some big water.:D

I thought those boats were unbreakable?
