Playboy Cig
My local dealer has a Playboy 35 coming in tomorrow. I have been able to locate a couple of articles but no real history on that edition. How many were made and what is the general consensus on them?

Any idea what one?
What dealer? I may be interested if you are not. I don't want to steal you deal but let me know if you pass. |

It's name is Centerfold, a yellow one that is showing a 2002 title date and Serial# CRTUSP05J102. Would one of you Cig Gurus be able to confirm for me that it is in fact one of the multi color Playboys and not a 35TS Mistress with playboy stitching in the upholstery?
Came out of Cumberland and arrived a LOTO today, I just test drove it and put down a deposit contingent on a few things including confirmation that it is a Playboy. |

I wouldn't let that be a deal breaker. I don't think playboys are worth anymore than a mistress. Both are the same boat just a different name. Either way, good luck with it, looks like a sweet boat.

if its a 2002 and a 35 it is a playboy. they made 12
some didn't have any playboy markings at all. in 2003 a 35 was called a Mistress |

As said there is no difference, I had the the first 2001 Playboy built with Dave Hunter Paint. He put a silver bunny head and play boy edition where the one you posted did but he used the Playboy font from the magazine covers. Dave as a surprise hid a bunny on each side hidden in the graphics to surprise me which I thought was really cool. At the time I had the boat built I was into some of the wilder graphics and loved the looks, boat got best graphics at the first FPC poker run to Key West it was in. There is another good thread about these boats. The boat is 2 1/2 feet shorter than a Top Gun and was only a few thousand less. Tres, Glen and Ralph Martin always told me the Gun was a better boat but I had a size constraint for storage.

Pretty sure I have pics of you running the playboy when it was new on the key largo poker run. I was on the 38 TS Miami Two Step. We tied up just south of key largo in a raft off and I crawled all over your boat ogling it. Fell in love with the absolutely classic design from the second I saw it. The first few (black / silver with mahogany floors) were just show stoppers. So suttle and elegant. Absolutely beautiful. |

I communicate with Glen, Ralph's son so I can ask him. What are the details of your boat? Ralph is a very interesting character in the high petformance boating circles. He was at Everglades in their heyday and impressed me with a lot of his stories about the first boat poker runs and working with Apache, Cig and Fountain back in the day. I got into performance boats in 1992 and have been fortunate to meet a lot of great people in the industry. My first trip to Fort Apache in March of 1992 was look at a 28 Apache. Sales man was Rick Conti , while I was there Dan Cambell had a four engine cat tied up to the dock and he le me climb all over it. 188th street was so cool with all of the boat builders. I live in Aventura now and go by there quite often, you would never know what as once there. |

That was one of the best boating days of my life, had such a great time going through the keys! I got to take my twin daughters who are 22 on the trip last year on my Jupiter and they loved it. Wasn't Miami 2-Step the first stepped Gun? Speaking of Playboys I will never forget Nauti Kitty pull in skiers behind his Playboy at Boca Grande Island off Key West. |

That as definitely an Everglades boat, I will see what I can find out about it. |
Yea I know there is no physical difference between an 02 or 03 but the playboy story adds a little uniqueness to it. Not as much as if it were a black one with mahogany deck but still qualifies it as a bastard step child.

I wish I knew where the pics of your boat were. I had a good one of you idling out of Gilbert's just off our starboard. Yea, Miami two step was the first pleasure TS (technically) and Miami boat show boat. That was the first Florida poker run i'd done and I was HOOKED!!! By the way if you talk to Glenn tell him tank and Kelly say hello. We hung out with him a lot during a desert storm poker run in havasu in the early 2000's when he was hanging out with Craig Barrie and they brought the first dragon out. Glenn's a great guy. |

J102 means that it was built in November of 01 and is a '02 model. It appears that it was number 5 of the 12 built... |
Wasn't there one for sale years ago taken apart?

Thanks for the "Playboy" pics! ...oh, and the boat pics are nice too :)

CIGROCKET - I've seen that black beauty of yours! :flag:
I'm also in Endicott.... small world! |
Anybody know where I might locate an owners manual for my mew to me 2002 Playboy? Or maybe willing to scan the Cigarette portion of theirs for me?
I have also heard somewhere that the playboys only have one belly fuel tank and it can be filled from either side, but there are two fuel level gauges on the panel what's the truth, two tanks, two tanks tied together, or one tank with two gauges on the panel? |
My 2001 Playboy came with a Top Gun manual. The manuals are not real detailed like you would find with a car. I always thought they were separate tanks because sometimes the fuel levels would be different
|
2 tanks, 2 shut offs

Survey is in the morning, can't sleep.
|
Good Luck, you will like the boat if everything checks out. Is that the original paint and color scheme when it was produced or has it been redone? I don't remember that one in particular?
|
From the photos I have tracked down of it it is the original paint scheam but the paint is so flawless I have to suspect she has had a little work done over the years. Still wish it was one of the black ones but I have always liked yellow and orange too.
