Goning to get power figured out and then dial in with props. If the boat doesn't like the drives then next winter will be #6 drives.

Let me know when you sell those Arnesons!

If you keep trying to fix stuff that's not broken, your wife is going to have you mounted on the wall next to your wolf.
Schweeng I have the hatch that is painted on the sides and has a slight rise to upholstery .....the center has the "1" cutout for more air

Stock blowers.... the Whipple intercooler is low profile in my opinion - def not as tall as a super chiller or something like that.

I've been working on dialing in my 39 with Arnesson's over the past few weeks. I tried out my backup props I bought this summer for the first time on Tuesday night and gained 20 mph at 5K RPM's. The Arnesson's are proving to be the real deal thus far. I'll post some videos when I figure out how to post to youtube.

She likes the drives just fine. Determining the correct prop size is the trick. I literally gained 20mph by going from 18x34's to 17.5x40's. After that gain, not sure if I should go back to a 18x40??

Drake22.250 10-31-2016 05:17 AM

Brent, video's look awesome, you did a great job with your boat! What have you seen top end and cruising speeds? Like your valve covers, will have the same soon. Any trouble getting on plane with the 17.5 compared to the 18inch?

Quinlan 10-31-2016 06:52 AM

Looking Great man- Now drag that Beeech up to GLOC some time!

By the way, got it back together yet? What was the issue in Nashville?

Terry

I do not have the boat setup yet. It will probably top 100mph when I get there. So far 92-93 once @ 5200 rpm, with short props. With correct props @ 32p, it should be @ 104 if my numbers are correct.

Locked up the motor when a crank failed in Nashville, trashed the engine with 15-20 hrs on it. Back to rebuilding and winter time stuff. Maybe next year....

I found the sweet spot around 3800 to 4000 RPM running around 80 mph. Not sure where top end will be just yet. The lake was a little rough for high speed testing so we just touched 5K RPM to get a picture with the smaller diameter props. With the 18x34's we were running right at 80 at 5K rpm on slick calm water, and with the 17.5 x 40's we were at 100 with rough water. During a late September poker run, we were running around 107 mph with the 18's, turning 5700 rpm. I am trying to get it in to be tuned by Mark Boos with Precision Marine in New Orleans this winter. Hopefully he can clean it up a bit.

As for getting on plane with the smaller props, that was my biggest concern, but it seemed to be the same. I hope Mark can help with the take off power band. I have to play with the throttle between 2400 to 2800 RPM until the props break loose a bit to get the RPM up, and then it grabs.. And you better be holding on to something.

Hunting season is officially started for me so test and tune will be put on hold for a couple of months. FYI, the Tickfaw 200 is only 6 months away.... JS

WOW....20 MPH gain? Where did you start and end up on speed? Did you make any others changes besides the drives?

I actually bought the boat after the drives and motors were installed (not sure I could have stomached that bill, after I saw all of the receipts). I had it taken down and re-rigged, painted, and interior done to my color scheme. As for speeds, I am still working on that. I will have a better idea in a few months. I too couldn't believe the increase in speed just by swapping props out. Good thing we took pictures!!! The best part was with the smaller diameter props it didn't even feel like I was pushing it yet, it was nice and smooth.

That things a beast, what power is in hot for a teacher? Sweet 39 just listed in classifieds at legend.

RedMatter 11-02-2016 12:11 AM

Well, if we're talking top speed in a twin step Top Gun, I have cruised (in fresh water no less) at 120MPH with my current wheels on M8 Drives with QuadCam 1100's in my Gun. It's a custom built "one of one" Cig 39 from 2012. The boat has more speed with different wheels, but I am content with this set up which adds great handling and safety. The boat is no nonsense at 110mph https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/img_1080.mov Not many V bottoms can out accelerate me from 40 mph to 120. Just saying. The video attached was a fuel burn before pulling the boat for the season a few weeks ago and I was doing around 100mph

Your boat is going to run great with the new power

With Arnesons, are you "stuck" with whatever prop shaft height you end up with on install/mounting height? That can be real tricky on the older hulls with custom combinations....

sre 11-03-2016 10:43 PM

My buddy's TG with 598 Zuls about 725HP with Xrs an d Imco lowers runs 98-100 .

The prop shaft height is adjustable as it has hydraulic trim. The transom mounting heights are fixed as the drives are bolted to the transom so ass u ming that the installer installed the Arnesons correctly then all is good.

Right, I understand the trim, but that comes with "angle" similar to a conventional outdrive. I guess my question was more like having adjustability on boxes, there really is none with the arneson design and no way to add "spacers" like a bravo or SSM derived design. you answered my question. The only way to adjust "true" prop shaft height would be to re-glass transom, drill holes and re-mount drives, correct? So it's very dependent on initial setup. Do you offer proven mounting templates for these hulls?

How is the plug-in? Can you run a driveshaft into the drive? Engine -> Trans -> Driveshaft -> Input shaft of the Arneson ? (Using the previous SSM setup / rigging)? Do engines need to move "down"?

Boatlesss 11-05-2016 09:35 PM

these are some good running boats

We have a drill template that lays it out really good. It places the drive in the correct location. No need to have to redrill the transom.

Drive line setup is easy as the input shaft just accepts the drive line yoke. Real easy.

The engine placement is "dependent upon" where it's at. There are so many different X dimensions on each boat that it's difficult to say off hand. The engines do seem to drop though by an inch or two normally.

On my boat a 1 degree change in prop shaft angle results in a half inch of vertical prop height change. When rigging Arnesons get them as low as you can without dragging the socket in the water too much.
