Owned both the 42X is my favorite by far. Had 2011 39 W/700's awesome boat. Have 2015 42X with 1100's the thing is unbelievable. Big difference is handling at speed. 42 runs 120 with little effort and handles like a dream. 39 ran just over 100 but had to work to get it there.

The owner put probably close to 500k in it to re power just a few years ago. Its worth way more than 100k more than a 700 boat. Thats not unreasonable at 400

My friends 2014 42X with 1100's has been for sale for over a year with a $475k ask price. He's very negotiable because his new boat is on order. Seeing that his boat is 7 years newer, only $75k more asking price, and him being very negotiable, I wouldn't even consider looking at the 07 for $400k.

Your friends boat has 1100s and #6s. That 07' has 1350s and M8s. That's almost a 100k difference retail when new.
I sold my 08' 42x earlier this year in the upper 2s. Basically the same boat with 1350s is at least worth 100k more.
