Default Clamp-on silencers

Everyone,

This has probably been asked and answered multiple times, but I am a little too busy to search. I love how loud my boat is. However, out of respect for my neighbors, I do not use it after dark. Anyone have success stories with clamp-on silencers? I know they don't remove the exhaust sound, but do they help make a glorious sound of Stelling headers more palatable for neighbors if you have to idle in later at night?

(I envision having them onboard and clamping them on once I realize I will be heading home well after dark.

Thoughts?

Might as well stick a potato in your exhaust.

I have Gibson clamp-ons that I use occasionally on lakes with overzealous law enforcement. I hate them ...

I have a set of Gibson's too. Used them ONCE on LOTO ---blew 2 Drives that weekend-- Never put them back on

It did quiet them down alot.

I had a set of GGB's on an older boat that did a pretty good job. Taking them on and off all the time isn't that easy and they usually scratch up your existing tips.

Took my father out to watch sunset last night and chat. Sitting on the Gladiator and told him of this post. We both laughed, picturing the exhaust spitting off a muffler like an old Speed Buggy cartoon.

Holy sh-t, that was funny. Reminds me of, \“I’m not falling for the old banana in the tail pipe.”

Hey LaughingCat, Did a lot of research about clamp-on silencers a couple of years ago. The poor results reflected are consistent with the responses from back then. I have 653" supercharged Zul's, and elected to go with 12"GGB inserts in my Stelling's dry exhaust. I am pleased with the results, and have had no issues with performance. Great product in my experience, still above 86dbs, but not as edgy at low speeds. Good Luck!
