Default Thoughts on converting a Cig 20 to an outboard

Wondering what your thoughts are on converting a 70’s cig 20 to an outboard are. I have an old 20 that needs everything. I bought it a few years ago with the intention of restoring it and dropping in a blue 525 but things changed at that time and the project got shelved. Now I’m going to start restoring the hull and was toying with the outboard idea. Has anyone done it? Do you think a 300 verado on a bracket is too heavy for the boat? Just general thoughts would help me make my decision.

They made a dozen or so 21' outboard models. There is one for sale in Lauderdale. Very cool boat and came very close to buying it but it needed a transom and probably a lot more... Not sure Id convert one though.

I converted several 28's, a 31 that I have now and a 35. They handle very well with a bracket. I would go with a aluminum bracket, float type, and an etec as they run great, little maintenance, and most important less weight hanging on the back. Much better then putting an I/o with weight and maintenance imo. Good luck.

Essentially, you'd have an equivalent to the 21' Apache Scout. Several of them are OB's and well proven to perform.
