Cigarette adventure year 5

This year I put clear bra material to protect the hatch, Side cig logos, and dash, various other parts on the boat that see lots of traffic.

Put the outer strakes back on that I removed 2 years ago and added a Tres Martin "wedge" . Eliminated the hop completely. She rides like a dream again.

Added intercoolers :
Not sure if I will keep. Idle is terrible surge is even worse. keeps dying in gear . Not a fan. None of those issues existed before the intercoolers.

How did the clear plastic protectors do??
How are the intercoolers being fed with water??
If water is always being pumped through them it can cause fuel puddling and a rich condition.

No issues with the film, besides the edges you`d never know it`s there.
Easy clean up.
I was feeding chillers at idle.
For one ride I cut off flow but it didn`t seem to affect them much.... but I didn`t have enough time to play with tune.
Water at idle really makes such a big difference?

Thats one of the nicest Flat Decks out there. Love it!

F-2 Speedy 10-19-2018 09:06 AM

YES!. Will cause poor Idle. Very Rich and then you have to continue cleaning them out. Plugs get fouled

So you put hook in it? Interesting.

But if the wedge is only outside of the lifting strakes it comes out of the water at higher speeds? Makes sense.

TexasBoy85 10-19-2018 12:31 PM

Dan, boat looks even more amazing in person. Enjoyed seeing you all at PBC Fall Harbor Hop with Kyle Lewis.

Dan, Did the wedge change your cruising speed or hurt top end much?

I'm interested in doing the same. IMO, even if it did cost a mph or two on the big end, It would be worth it to increase cruising efficiency where I'm normally dragging tab...

Yep, especially if they were tuned for idle without the chillers and especially with the cool water temps of Lake Michigan.

I was at ROTO with 80* water but yes, 3 turns out on the carbs vs. 1.5 without chillers. I`ll be re rigging that set up. with engines in it is hard to put in a separate pickup.

VortechSS , by all accounts I lost 3 mph on the big end and nowhere else. Actually picked up 3mph at cruise (different ratio drives)
However totally worth it , she flies straight and the hop is gone.

Tfarmer turned me on to this mod and sold me his 5`s. Those Canadian farmers... they`re alright

How are you going to break 100 if you keep making it slower? :D

Since you added intercoolers are you going to get some party pulleys? :ernaehrung004:

ICDEDPPL 10-21-2018 12:50 AM

I changed pulleys from -3% to over drive the blower at 2%. ends up being about the sme boost (7psi) with chillers. At the end of the day trying to make this heavy 80`s era boat fast is a waste of time. I got 90mph out of her once. I`m fine with that. At this point reliability is my main concern.

Yep, guys spend a fortune trying to make them fast, I learned with the mistress, reliable summers are way more fun....

Dan it’s about the ride not the mile an hour .

I agree, this top gun is a blast at 70-73... that's all she has but puts a huge smile on my face... I mean 90-93 would not suck though LOL

That's one badass Cigarette ICD. Well done Cig brother

bck 11-14-2018 09:55 PM

Does the clear film provide any better traction for walking on without slipping ? What ratio do you have with the new drives?

Rhythm and Blues 11-14-2018 10:53 PM

Looking good Daniel, Its gotta be the nicest tank out there! You’ve set the bar brother! I’m really hoping someone buys Beast and does that thing justice... Have a good Thanksgiving.

I haven`t noticed any different traction. The color seems a little "deeper" besides that you`d never know it was there .

1.53 according to speed/rpm. Old ratio was 1.49.

wow, starving that engine of oil, that could have got expensive.... I've always had good luck with felpro, and no cork for me

ICDEDPPL 11-15-2018 09:49 AM

Pressure was fine at low rpm but started to decrease after 3500. Now it`s obvious why .

I`ve used the one piece gaskets in the past and those damn things leaked. Tried the cork, no leaks but then this so this time I`ll go:

The 1 pc rubber leaked? I am surprised, I love those, I do use black RTV on both sides just to be sure though, never leaked

hogie roll 11-18-2018 12:28 PM

Can’t believe how clean that thing is. Add steps? 😁
