I don't see anything wrong with painting it. Maybe even consider solid white.

Your 35 Mistress has got the Martini Racing Team's colors and with an addition of another thin stripe or two would be perfect. However, most people like to keep things original and I find Your Mistress eternally stunning as she is!

I'd say backdate everything that's been updated besides the mechanicals: the mechanicals I'd further update, maybe some whipples, look for original switchgear etc etc, back to original polished throttles, go over all the wood to a mirror finish, refresh the paint, gelcoat. Maybe add some trick hidden modern appointments. Going back to original gets harder with every passing day; updating is easy..
