At least you have the skill to do all this. That's what it's gonna take being way out there. Looking forward to the progress.
Besides knowledge I lack tools, starting at cero in this country, even had to fly the spark plug tool in :picard1: |

I talked to the original former owner once. Nice old fella, but his memory fading, he couldn´t answer all my questions. He bought the engine blocks from Shafiroff and assembled them himself, had the piston domes machined to lower compression and chose a mild cam.
Not sure why anybody would choose a drag engine for a boat, but hey, still happy to have some beefy irons under the hood. They should be 6-7 years old and under 50 hours. Need some more detective work to identify the Edelbrocks (they have rectangular ports) and the cams. Unfortunately I don´t have any specs on them and either on the ignition timing. No dyno in this country. I wonder how many hp, any wild guesses? |

Scott Shafiroff built a 548” for my old velocity and it was a super solid motor, and to my knowledge is still going strong. He is very approachable, I’d suggest calling him to verify what you have.

Good idea, will call him. Former owner told me he dealt with Vinnie, maybe you know him too.

Not much progress on the boat but had a crane build to pull the engines and managed to get the spare engine block to my workshop. Found a local mechanic to help me. Just when we wanted to start Malaysia went into full lockdown because of the coronavirus and I had to abandon my workshop. Before leaving I tossed some parts into my car so I have something to do at home. We have a lot of time now here, everything is closed and we are not allowed to leave home except for groceries (only one person at a time, police and military patrolling the streets).
So I disassembled the Harding water pumps, found broken impeller and corrosion. I really have to inspect every single piece of my boat, because every time I do, I find that it has to be serviced or repaired. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d2224134b6.jpg Photo is misleading, crane is only 2 ft higher than the arch and not that skinny https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...edc4d5091f.jpg Hardin 2 Stage Sea Water Pump https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...72d2bb86ab.jpg in pieces https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a587a65503.jpg this is what you get when saltwater sits for months without flushing https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2a04772b10.jpg some steering parts https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...db80fdb603.jpg hours of hand polishing https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1422a8b4de.jpg 4 days of curfew later https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...84e8a1738e.jpg the propeller still need a lot of work |

Still locked in at home, so I did some more cleaning. Starboard carburetor this time, lots of dirt and grime as usual. But somehow satisfying to see that there is a reason why the engines didn’t start (well, stbd is seized now anyway).
Can’t wait to put everything back in. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...133538d6a.jpeg Carburetor cleaning, again https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...357e903d1.jpeg Seller wondered why engine wouldn’t start https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3a135fff6.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4386a4932.jpeg All cleaned up https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ea303627f.jpeg |
I think the lockdown will continue for quite a while but that will mean plenty of time for tinkering with smaller items. Wish I had a project sitting here to work on, lockdown life is getting boring........
