Cigarette adventure #6
I sucked up some cork gasket material in the oil pickup last season so the engines had to come out .
I`ve never liked the wet sump internal oil pump so I decided to go external oil pump. With spring and piston oilers my oil pressure has never been great . Fully adjustable , flow 30gph, external screen R4 Peterson pumps work fantastic. While they were out , why not Big M Dart blocks, new bellhousings, Holley EFI, coil/plug, Terminator TB`s , New lifters, intake, convert oil pans to full windage trays, Fuel pumps. Replaced all battery cables thruout ...this mod was awesome, so hard to start the boat, now it takes one battery and starts with ease, not two batteries in parallel and still struggles to start (an issue since day 1) New dash with Holley screens and gauges. (Took out about 20 lbs of hoses and wiring for all the senders) Holley uses one data wire for all gauges. New Cams by Mild Thunder (these things rock) Bunch of powder coating Pics are worth a thousand words I guess. |

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...96ff0f796c.jpg tuning for idle was a real *****, definitely not plug and play.. took 2 trips to the river with the tuner .I was lost .it would surge like a mofo https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4e5411fcd1.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1c7d9b14d6.jpg |

My hard work payed off. 94mph on flat river water which a flat deck just hates.
94mph 32* of timing and 7.8psi 11.2 afrs at WOT There`s more in the tune but it`s safe now. Some good chop, a little more timing , maybe lean out a bit .. there`s 100mph I believe. with a little extra boost no doubt . https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...36f8e9cabc.jpg |
wow!!!!! |

Awesome! Lots of work there, man!
Love seeing old school styled blower engines with new COP ignition and EFI!! How's that saying go? Have the cake & eat it too!:musik010: Next time you have someone in the boat that doesnt know the boat but knows carbureted engines, pump the hell out of the throttles before starting it up and watch their eyes get big!! Hahaha |
Please consider a closed edge pulley for your oil pump belt.
Id hate to see the belt walk off and risk engine damage after you put all that $$ and hard work into it. |

Yes a local Holley certified tuner, I`ve been working with him since early 2000`s . Finish line performance in Plainfield Illinois |
Nice job Dan. Like I've said before, finest flatdeck in existence.

It's not a disease, it's a 'talent' and you have it sir. :) https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d1beea8f26.jpg |
I`m already glad I went external oil pump , the shop that did my short blocks (came highly recommended) ended up replacing the intake manifold and they must have dropped a bunch of gasket material in the block.
I was able to open the prefilter and catch everything . If I still had internal pickup I`d be pulling the engines and trying to figure out why the oil pressure was not so good. I`d probably lose it since I`m leaving for LOTO this week https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...34fcf2060a.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...20b71cd33f.jpg |

Very Nice Dan! Great attention to detail. I'm sure 100MPH is a tune away, What a great inspiration for us fellow boaters. Thanks for the thread!

Did you install MDC Drive Guardians? I`ve had them since they came out but one of them wasn`t working right, I had Mike go thru them and they should be good to go now . |

I`ve done the Harbor hop and it was a lot of docking all day long , fenders in , fenders out, lines , etc etc .. my crew hated it by the end of the day lol |
