Speaker under rear seat
 

So, what are you cig guys using when adding speakers under the rear seat? Just big Coax speakers, Free air subs, or box subs?

I guess if it’s just a sub you’re looking for I’d go with a proven product. I am in the process of redoing the interior of a 42x and just chose to go with the JL Audio Marine Application. Pricy but worth it.

Ive always been a huge stereo nut. Competition stereos in cars and always loud stereos in our boats (probably why I have bad tenitus now!) I’ve had various applications in all our boats. Have done free airs, subs mounted under the bench in their own backing enclosed box’s and now the cafe has a box under the bench seat running 3 enclosed / ported 10’s that did not require holes cut under the bench. I’ve had various sub makes as well. You’ll get a cleaner harder bass with a boxed sub compared to free air. The new style bigger coaxle speakers add to the overall bass as well and the new stuff from JL Kicker and Bluave that has really concentrated on marine application is pretty amazing stuff, true game changers. You do net see large subs in most boats anymore as the big CC’s are running 20 9” coaxial speakers that hit hard.

Waves and wheels makes a box that fits well under bench seat. My 2001 I just sold, which regret selling now, had two 10’s under the seat and put out a TON of low end sound. I could have gotten away with a single quality 10” sub with the box from Waves and Wheels.

I had JL subs in the old Top Gun. The playboy has Kicker free air subs. I have been happy with them.

I have always had good JL free airs, if you power them properly they hit hard! Boxes may sound a tad better but in my opinion I never heard boxes outperform in a boat with a proper free air setup, to me the extra space taken up is not worth it, Cigs have no storage as it is, I keep tons of things under seat, need that space..

Mitch at Md offshore did a complete Bluave system in my tiger and in my 20 its friggin mind blowing. I've never been that guy that had to have the loudest stereo as there is always someone that has more, but I will put this one up against any of them. I used box subs under the rear seats and its just amazing. the clarity just blows my mind.

I used 10" free air subs with 200w driving each one on my TG and they sound great, But I also have a set of 8.8's and 3 sets of 7.7's, I used the M-Series JL Audio. They released the M3 & M6 series earlier this year but not sure how they compare to the M. You also have several other top choices like Bluave but brand loyalty is like owning Chevy, Ford. or a Dodge lol.

Thanks guys!! Im leaning towards the free air subs, for reasons of still having usable space under seat. I have Wet Sounds speakers already, to replace cockpit and cabin speaker, and also a Fusion head unit. So I will probably stick with Wet Sounds subs and amp

Dont you guys end up missing the storage space in your anchor & fender locker? There's enough room in the cockpit wall for a 12" free air sub right next to the front passengers feet. You could also put one on the drivers side, but one west sounds FA 12 driven by 600 watts RMS was well more than enough for me. I have 2 more pairs of 8 inch wet sounds coaxials and adding a 3rd pair in the spring.
