Depends on where your current "X" dimension is at and what type of box you are putting on. If you have a low "X" a standard box will put the drive deeper which would not help you. If you are looking for max speed an "X" of 17-17.5 is optimum. IF you want good overall performance with easy planning 15-15.5 is a more conservative number. With your power the box is not going to give you much bang for the buck unless you plan on going up in power to 650-700HP where your speed is going to be up the 75mph range. My $0.02

The transom is all new so the X factor has yet to be determined.
Now the numbers your giving me are they from the bottom of the Keel to Center of crank shaft?
my possible future plan would be to put a blower on and push the 700 + hp.
im also curious as to my option for the size of box, what I mean by that is how much set back is available. what do they make?

Do you have any cs of your 27 cigarette? I've always liked the lines on the 27.
