Does anyone know if Cigarette produced the Cafe in 89 or 90 with tall deck blocks. After running numbers mine has GM (Marine) stamped on the tall decks. The owner of the boat had passed away before I bought it and I am not sure what has been done to the engines. The exhaust are Mercury (Gil) and the tailpipes line up perfectly with the transom, this leads me to believe they are stock. The transom does not appear to be plugged or re-gel coated. With the additional width of the tall deck, I would think if these were not original to the boat I would see some modifications. I do know someone had rebuilt them and added Dominators, I was told they were 454's or 540's the family was not sure.
They run great, and make good power, I do not want to pull them, but I am trying to get some background on what was available. I figured the boat may have been built with 420's but now I think they could be 470's. Any help would be appreciated.

The deck height is 10.2 and the GM casting numbers are 14044807. Someone also changed intakes and added spacers for the additional width. That is what initially made me question what engines they were.

Casting numbers had this, but doesn't give the stroke,
Manufacturer Chevrolet Category Engine Blocks Type Big Block V8 Date
Notes 454 tall deck, 4 bolt, Bowtie, MkIV, CNC prep, Tall deck, 4.25 bore or 4.495 bores

Thanks for the info, I thought they could be bulldogs but I don't see anyway of knowing for sure unless I pull them. At this point since they are strong I will wait. I was not sure if the 420's were tall deck or just the 540s.
