Cigarette 20 "Makeover"- The making of OldSchool IV

Just finishing up a makeover of my 1974 Cigarette 20. I bought the boat a year ago...and bought a restored, well built and solid boat from OSO member "Holy Smokes" (Travis). He had done all of the hard stuff! LOL Transom and stringer replacement, complete drivetrain replacement (Engine, transom assembly and Bravo1 outdrive), All new wiring for complete boat, gauges, fuel tank, etc... I got the boat, used it for 3 months and decided to make it my own. I wanted to have my friend Mike at FineLine Marine Interiors do a custom interior..... The paint was OK, but I just couldn't get to a place where I liked the color. . So, off to the paint shop it went in February. I've got to get some pictures downloaded from my phone to my computer and will post them as it happened, but this project went from wanting to get a new interior.....to a full blown transformation with a chitload of might-as-wells!

Here are some pictures from the work that had been done before I got it and the first three months of having it, will move on to the project from there. It turned out really nice!

Well, I don't have a Top Gun anymore. Next project for me is a repower, repaint and new interior in my '99 Cafe Open, but we are gonna enjoy this one for a few months before digging into that one. ;) :)

I had originally thought that I wanted an all white boat with a stripe down the middle, but a few months into the process and being house-ridden from a second shoulder surgery in 6 months along with the covid crap, I decided that I wanted some color on the sides. After some playing around with Crayons :D, I came up with a drawing.. Every boat that we have owned in the last 20 years had a "not so mild" paint scheme. I did not want that for this boat. Wanted to have a more "Classic" design. This was for design, not the colors. I had a limited amount of Crayons...

Finally got the boat out of paint in the first week of August . I will say this... The paint is beautiful and I'm happy with the quality of the paint work. That's all I have to say about that. :)

On to FineLine for the rest... I have a few people to thank. First, Mike at FineLine. He's a good friend and there is a reason why he has so many repeat customers. Truly the best in the business! I spent 2 days a week over there for the next 8 weeks getting stuff done. Brett May, another great guy and good friend. He also is a fun guy to drink beer with! :ernaehrung004:
How cool is it to have the guy that designed Mayfair hydraulic steering install it on your boat? Brett also did a bunch of other work on the boat and it is greatly appreciated. Brian Jackson at Offshore Outdrives. I had a -2 IMCO lower that had been sitting for 5 years or so. Put it on the boat and it leaked a little. Ran it over to Bradenton and Brian took it apart, inspected it and re-sealed it within 5 days. That was a BIG help! Jerry at Stainless Marine. He brought us a set of manifolds and then came back a few days later to measure for tailpipes, then made them and had them to us in less than 10 days. Also, Mark at Dave Hunter's paint shop. My windshield was OK, but had some of that "hazing" or micro cracks in it. He painted it for me and it turned out great... Good stuff!!!

Stereo

I really like the stereo that I have in my center console, so I stuck with the same brands. Wiring and installing it was pretty easy with nothing in the way... Fusion head unit, JL Audio M700/5 amp and JL 770 speakers with a JL Audio 10" sub. It turned out to be more than probably needed for this little boat...but more is better and it rocks!!
