38 cigarette audio upgrades.

I'm redoing the stereo in the cigarette this spring and need some opinions on how many batteries to run and what amps to run. I'm going to be running 2 pairs of the Jl 8.8s and 4 Jl m10 subs and probably 2/3 pairs of the Jl 7.7s and I'm wondering what is going to be the best amps to run this whole system and would I wanna add an extra battery or two? also need some inspiration photos.

assuming this is being installed in a 38 TG? and limited to cockpit audio only? If so, your list of speakers seems like overkill. if you stick with (4) 8.8’s you likely only need (2) 10’s. would probably skip the 7.7’s altogether. I guess you could install everything you listed but man….it would be loud. Would recommend jl audio amps for sure and an extra battery or 2.

Here's some inspiration pics, not the best pics for location but a general idea. When I updated my cockpit I added JL M-Series which has now been replaced by the M6 Series, I used 1 PR 6.5, 2 PR 7.7, 1 PR 8.8, 2 10" subs, with 600/6 & 800/8 amps and 2 XP3000 batteries. Turned out great and I'm happy, if you can checkout some local boats to see what sounds best to you. Opinions on stereos is like which truck is the best (Chevy vs Dodge vs Ford) all are good, just what ever fits your needs. Also, where I installed the 8.8's I had to use a spacer.

yes, on a 38TG. I'm planning on putting a pair of the 7.7 up front. the reason I'm not going with all 8's is because of the price and I would have to add another amp witch that would need another battery. I'm planning on running the fusion amps with 2 batters so I can have 1 battery hooked up to each one. also, space is a little limited for amps and all that.

thanks for the pictures those will definitely go to use. my question is how you wired in the extra 2 batteries to the alternator or did you just run an extra line from your existing batteries to charge them off of like seen in the photo below.

I did not connect to my engine charging system, I charge the amp batteries with the XS Power battery charger (HF1215) I installed just for them. I can play hard for hours or make the weekend before charging.

My top gun, I ran 4 JL 10's off a 1000/1 Jl amp, 4 7.7's off a 200/4 Jl amp, and Jl tweeters off radio power, sounded amazing, never added batteries no need for me, I had group 31 and the biggest thing to not kill batteries and amps is a 0/1 power wire true copper, I actually use weld cable, never had amps cut out, ever and we beat that steel hard!

10 total speakers playing highs is total overkill in that cockpit, you’ll have to turn the highs down. All that cone area with the additional 4 10s would make some decent bass though. I’ve found you won’t ever regret having extra stereo, you can turn it down. I’ve only had a problem in a smaller boat where the highs were too loud in the bow because I didn’t have zone control.

I’m a stickler about building subwoofer enclosures so I can put serious power to the subs. Most boats are fairly lame for bass ime. I’m currently running 2 10” solobarics in starboard enclosures with 12-1400w rms. I’ve got 4 7.7s fusions near the floor with 110rms each. That’s just sufficient for my larger CC cockpit while cruising. Mainly because my backseat is too far from them.

I like kicker and fusion stuff, haven’t been able to bring myself to pay the JL premium.

I currently have the fusion 4 channel for 4 7.7s and adding 2 8.8 tower speakers.

I have the kicker 1200.1

Running 2 10” solo barics.

in sealed enclosures near the min size.

If you want to run 4 pairs of 7.7s and 8.8s the 4 channel fusion is nice. If you want 6 pairs the 6 channel version is nice.

You can run more than one amp per battery.

Try to keep your amps digital (class D) and they will be far more efficient.
