Oh, baby, that looks close in there. Does the hatch close all the way? If it were me, I would rig some hoses and take it out and run it hard, before I drilled any more holes. Just sayin...

Tight!

it’s tight! But closes and about a inch maybe two to spare roughly

Good report

Good report on my nightmare.

fired off the port side today and ran for quite a while at various RPMS and some breaks in between on the hose.

Absolutely zero water in my oil for the first time in a very long time it seems! I hated to go to dry exhaust but I did what I thought was gonna save my a$$ and put an end to the witch hunt!

Going to do a couple more oil changes to make my self feel better but so far so good!

87CigCafe,

I can remember when my dad swapped a 350 out for a 454 in our '77 Suburban. We were at the shop that did the swap when they fired it up for the first time, with just the exhaust manifolds, and drove it over the trench to do the exhaust work. When they shut it off, my dad and I looked at each other and both of us said, "Sounds fine to me!" :ernaehrung004:

Thanks. Brad.

Looks fantastic, and I’m sure it sounds hair raising! I had played with my exhaust quite a bit on my cafe to keep my tails cool and mitigate any tendency to revert. I was running Hardin Cyclones to a traditional 4 bolt flange tail with a similiar rise to yours. My problem was heat in the riser at idle; couldnt get the heat exchange right. Off idle maybe 1100 rpm on it was good but down low they got hot hot. I ran dumps like yours, had to play around with restrictions while watching water pressure. Keep an eye on your water pressure.

87CigCafe 07-07-2024 02:38 PM

Great weekend!

Had a great weekend with the ol girl! We beat on it Thursday Friday and Saturday with no issues FINALLY and I have clean oil for once! Reversion has seemed to be an issue all along? Dry exhaust is loud especially if you are behind it. Going down the lake it’s not terrible but definitely noticeably louder than she was before! I don’t mind it though!

it’s called “ Tims Ford Reservoir” about 1.5hr south of Nashville Tennessee in my little town called “Winchester Tennessee “ 10,000 acre man made real deep lake with 3 marinas. Born and raised on this lake it’s fun at times!

This ol girl just keeps wanting to fight it seems LOL

did one more oil change the other day ( all is good there just being cautious )

anyways while I was doing so and in the engine bay. I guess a corner of the hatch “ blew out “ so to speak. Fell down smacked me on the top of the head and pretty well just threw me in the bilge LOL I am pretty sure I was out for a short period.

of course my phone was up on the dash doing me no good. Luckily my wife had happened to come out to the shop and I started yelling! Managed to maneuver my self around to pick the hatch up with my back and prop something in between it and the bulkhead to give me enough space to wiggle out of there. I guess when it broke it slid out of the other existing hinge then pivoted on the two lift rams then decided to take it down with it.

anyways father and I fabbed up some hardware to put on there to eliminate that and take some pressure off those stupid little hinges on the back. I got them coated white before I stuck them on photos you see are for test fitting purposes etc!

All is good now it seems ( for now )

surely this isn’t a factory hinge set up? We all know how heavy this hatch is I’m sure.

Tartilla 07-23-2024 03:03 AM

Glad to hear you're all good. Those hatches are heavy.

1Zoom 07-23-2024 07:12 AM

Glad to hear you are okay. They are stupid heavy, I'm in the process of redoing mine. I needed to raise it and wanted it to look factory, it looks like I will be making a whole new hatch at this point. When they built the hatch for the Cafe's, they made it difficult to modify. Every side has something strange going on.

it’s not terrible loud but just the continuous sound of it seems to get to ya a little bit.

I was being a little sarcastic about the ear plugs LOL

Looking good!

I did went all around the perimeter of the bilge on the 311. I used a kit meant to put LEDs under cars.... has worked really well for the last seven years (only had one tube go out - had backups). Only thing was that it needed to run with a specific controller, but the controller does all kinds of stuff and has a remote.

I'll probably do something similar with the Bullet.

Also... glad you're okay from that hatch falling on you! They are stupid heavy!

I used to run these on my rock crawlers many years ago. They have an unbeatable warranty “ unvoidable “ as they say! Simple control box with + / - connection simple to the battery and controlled by a remote ( see photo of remote for all the different colors).

local small business near me sells them at a great price as well. If anyone wants the number let me know and I will pass it along tell them I sent you!

the photos above with the red on are just the two small strip pieces turned on. I’m going to add 2 of the oval shaped ones somewhere in there not sure where yet though.

you can either screw these on or double sided tape for the oval ones and for the strip ones they are double sided tape but I’m sure one someone could rig something up if they didn’t like tape.
