1MOSES1 01-12-2023 07:12 AM

someone at cig is literally taking existing clothing lines and slapping cigarette embroidery on it.

I miss the old apparel. Design and price.

tlark 01-12-2023 02:36 PM

they are a real bargin, they range from $180 to $230 per

thisistank 01-12-2023 06:28 PM

I saw a trucker hat on sale last week. Yeh $90 was slashed out and it was $140! Lol. Brilliant.

I like my $20 cig hat.

Wake Up ! The new CRT considers you guys as past customers or 2nd, 3rd used product owners. you're not in their model of potential new customers. Sorry if you haven't figured this out.

thisistank 01-12-2023 09:26 PM

What’s the old saying… a fool and his Money are easily separated.

Lot more issues with new ownership besides the over priced apparel. A LOT more from what I’ve been hearing.

Unlimited jd 01-12-2023 09:53 PM

I’ve heard a couple rumors, and some things easily shown. It’s more fun to watch the blind loyal just follow and praise the “Miami billionaire”

Madman7 01-13-2023 08:36 AM

Fess up.... What you guys hearing?

These guys had misstep after misstep and took a premiere boat mfg and made it sh$t.

I have a friend that is been having a old 20 Cig redone, he has bought a bunch of the over price cloths. Kind of like Harley gear, once you slap the logo on you have to pay the 40% premium over the non logo same $hit.

Over priced merchandising is no big deal. If you buy a million dollar sports boat, do you really care if the wife wants a casual outfit that costs $200……? The current breed of new Cig buyers aren’t fussed about the hundreds, it’s the bigger dollars they’re concerned with. Most boats are overpriced nowadays, why shouldn’t their fashion accessories be too?

Is a Rolex watch any better than Omega or Seiko? Probably not, but it’s the only one that says Rolex on the dial. 🙂

RR (and his opinion)

I agree to a certain extent on the over priced merchandise. Million dollar boats. I get they aren’t going to sell $15 t shirts. I take exception to the fact they are literally ordering stock clothes from **** vendors and slapping logos on it then up-charging. Price increases give the impression that it’s better quality clothes. The woman’s lines look like athletica junk and the men’s look like under armour.

on the watches. Omega is no where near Rolex. Omega use eta movements and slap omega logos on it. Much like breitling, panerai, etc. Rolex design and manufacture all movements in house. You pay for it along with marketing.

thisistank 01-13-2023 01:54 PM

I get marketing and catering to an elite clientele. I do. And correct, you drop 3 million on a cigarette you’re not gonna give two sh*ts about dropping money on over priced swag. But on the flip side, I would think there’s a way to balance catering to the ultra wealthy while still paying homage and respect to current cigarette owners and fans. I mean, skip did it. And he was even criticized for it but he still managed to have people in place to deal with prior customers (bud) even if it was limited and he kept the clothes reasonable and he did a fantastic job at building the brand recognition, turning it into a world brand and staying focused on not getting sidetracked with allusions of grandeur. He stayed on mission and understood the broader market, wide variety of supporters (fans)and clientele while understanding the limitations of the brand.

I also think it comes down to basic economics regarding the clothing prices - there’s only so many people interested in buying clothes plastered with cig logos and the vast majority of those people are NOT the huge ballers but the owners that have older boats and/ or those that respect the heritage. If you cut out that group you’ve just cut off a major portion of sales. Better to sell only a handful of overpriced swag? Or sell a ton of swag at reasonable prices? Remember, the more shirts you have out there the more free advertising you’re getting. Like I said. It’s marketing 101.

less distractions, more realistic goals and more understanding the clientele and specialized market is what’s needed over there in my humble opinion.

DrFeelgood 01-13-2023 02:01 PM

It feels like the owners never really were interested in building boats, and assumed that part of the business would just keep on ticking on its own, instead trying to grow the value of the brand by making it appeal to those who just want to be associated with some sort of luxury image without actually having the means or desire to buy a boat.

IGetWet 01-13-2023 04:48 PM

It’s sad but some people will only buy things or believe it’s better if that particular thing costs a lot of money. I bet if you put two exact same under armor T-shirts next to each other on clothing racks, on with a price tag of $25 and one with a price tag of $200, the people that are buying these cig clothes would also buy the $200 T-shirt just because it costs more. In their mind it’s “better”

Sounds lime you know you’re watches,I just threw in a couple of names we all recognized.

How about Rolex V Tudor…..Aren’t they the same movement? (but a very different price)

Back on the Cig story, I don’t think they care too much, they’re in the boat business and there’s a lot more profit building boats than selling clothes. To those fortunate enough to buy a new boat, I’m sure if they ask nicely, they’ll get some T-shirts and caps thrown in free. That shows how Cigarette truly value the clothing line.

Honestly, I don't think Cigarette is in the business of building boats anymore, at least not under the current ownership. Their focus really seems to be on "lounge wear" aka sweatpants.

For whatever reason, the current ownership seems to be obsessed with Scott Disick. He has a clothing brand called Talentless, basically just lounge wear (read: sweatpants). Cigarette's clothing/apparel/merch and marketing is basically a carbon copy of this style. And I suppose this tracks, as the "c-suite" team at cigarette is basically wealthy, late teens/early 20's tiktok obsessed gen z'ers.

Basically the current cigarette ownership wants to be the kardashians. They want tiktok followers. They want you to buy their #merch. Smash that like button. Don't forget to subscribe. The fast boats just make a cool back drop for their content. This is more or less what the tiktok generation aspires to, and that's who's running cigarette.

I agree with a lot of the opinions and complaints but the fact is.....they have boats booked throughout this year and most of next. They are still selling and still one of the strongest in terms of custom, you select what you want and we will build it performance boat companies left.

funny you bring up disick. He has a 50 Marauder and keeps it on a lift at marina del rey. Buddy sent a pic of it sitting offset on the lift all f*cked up. Friend of mine knows him, I sent him the pic like, “might want to tell your boy to fix his sh*t” lol 😂

your synopsis is spot on I’m afraid.

agreed but let’s face it, many companies are still benefitting from the covid days. The hangover hasn’t impacted every business yet, especially ones who have long lead times on products.

can anyone confirm if cigarette has worked thru the backlog of orders from covid days? If so, then I stand corrected.
