Engine Hatch Help
The engine hatch on my 39 will not open. When I push the switch momentarily to "close" it sounds normal (hatch already closed), but when I push the switch to "open" all I get is a single click or clunk sound from the engine room. The batteries are fine as the engines turn over and fire up normally and everything else works normally. I have tried it on shore power and on batteries with no change. This is a new problem that I have luckily never had to solve before on any of the boats. The good news is that the hinges are on the outside, but will I be able to remove the hatch with the rams attached? Any ideas?

the hatch on our gun has been doing that intermittently. I usually have to tap it down then back up when it gives me problems. It’s not often but it does happen. |
Might just be the switch especially if it has gotten wet lately. Try switching the wires on the switch if it is accessible.

Did you put a hex on me? Nearly 20 years in this boat without any problems whatsoever and now this. Just kidding buddy. Even if you owned it now it would still be my problem because I would not leave you hanging.
I’d agree with Tommy and easy way to check. Pull the dash to get behind the switch and jump the switch with a screw driver. But then again, if it’s clicking like mine does, I’d say it’s more likely the hatch motor or more likely a solenoid to the hatch motor. |
The pump for the hatch is under the back seat. Look for a loose wire or jump it there directly, that will eliminate the switch

Sounds like a bad relay....

Also check the hatch master switch in the cabin.

There is power to the pump through the switch because it will run when I hit "down" on the switch. When I hit "up" on the switch, I get nothing but a single click or clunk from the left, front side of the engine room. My pump for the engine hatch is under the dash next to the pump for the cabin door. I am thinking it could be a relay or solenoid that has gone bad. Anybody know how to test for this?
