Default 380 Tabs

I recently ordered a set of tabs from BAM part #891574T01 for a ‘04 TG. When I went to install, the ram seemed to be a different length and the hole for ram to bolt onto tab is too large. Reached out to my mechanic and he said there a Generation/Version 1 and 2 of these. I’ve never heard that before. Asking if anyone has before. I was replacing the 280’s. Thanks

Any feedback on this? If not, I’ll reach out to BAM. Thanks

I do know there is a are 2 different versions and I would think your 04 should have the Gen 2. On my 06 AT they are gen 2 for sure, because when I did my makeover it took 2 times getting the right parts. I would get the part number off your old K planes to verify for sure.

Default Sorry, wrong tabs!

Wrong ones. The hinge pin should be smaller DIA, also. The hydraulic cylinder rod eyes are hour glass shaped that take (2)
conical poly bushings. The tabs you're looking for may be out of production. Send them back, research, start over. Take a closer
look at the hydraulic rod end shape of a later model 380.

I checked BAM's site...It appears both versions are still available. You just ordered the wrong ones.
Again, check the rod end... Straight or Conical bushing : )

So it turns out I have Gen 1 and bought Gen 2. They are willing to only refund 50% of total cost. Has anyone made the modifications to make Gen 2 fit in an original Ge 1 boat? I just had surgery, so can’t pull them off and out a tape on it. Just curious if someone has been there and done that. Thanks

Possibly use the "Gen 1" pins and source or fabricate sleeves/ split-sleeves to fit the later hardware, if you have to.
Although, sometimes taking a $1000 hit is far better than enduring $500 worth of frustration. Good Luck!

Go to Bam Marine --- Mercury Parts Lookup/Drawings - Accessories & Parts For Mercury Mercruiser & Hi-Performance - Trim/Tilt/Lift Systems & Components - Trim/Tilt/Lift Systems & Components 1994 & Up --- See the K-Plane 380C selection, compare that to the K-Plane 380S that you purchased. Take pics of your old assy's and the new Trim Tabs. Call Bam marine and tell then you need assistance before you place an order, explain your situation. Request that you'll send them your pics and tell them you're switching to 380's and need advice before placing your order. I'm not being a smart-a$$, BTW. You just need an absolute fool-proof plan for getting parts. Also, the first thing they'll ask is for a part number, then will advise you to check their website...You'll already be prepared with a plan and info in hand. BAM is a great resource, but don't expect the person over the phone to be a specialist in parts swapping/mismatching with 20 year old assy's. Check all the drawings --- 280C, 280S, 380C, 380S paying special attention to the Ram rod end shape and hinge pin part numbers...Compare your old assy part numbers with the new assy that you're interested in swapping to...Also, your ram (square barrel) is not depicted in the 380S illustration (only round)... But, you WILL find your identical ram (Square barrel / Straight rod end eye) in a 280S Drawing which is the assy that you presently have. ALSO, the 'C' and 'S' letters that follow the 280/380 numbers do NOT depict a newer and older designation...Don't let that fool you. You're bound to get the right ones this time, there's only two available choices : ) Also, compare the hinge pin part numbers of the tabs you're purchasing with the hinge pin part numbers of your current tab assy's. This is an exercise in hopefully preventing a future parts debacle and incurring another 50% restocking fee. Marine parts resellers aren't as flexible as Autozone.
