Talked to a Cig rep this week about the Rendezvous this year. They're working on a schedule and it's coming together. Already have a good number of boats registered. Looking like it's going to be a great time.

I confirmed with Kelly that he’s bringing my other boat for the rendezvous, and he’s got room.

I have a race that weekend, but may skip it for a LOTO visit. I haven’t been there since 2003 I think when I picked up my 37AT there, so I may skip the race. As such, we booked a room at Camden. Mel and I should be there.

We will see if Kelly lets me drive again. Last time it blew up about 45 seconds after he took the helm back over. He may make we wait until Sunday!!! :D

Ill be there Thursday through Sunday .....might stay till Monday if Tim does.

I hear ya buddy. Last year I put it away and didn't deal with it - all season. This year I am finding all the gremlins. Let's just say it's more than I bargained for:

#6 conversion
New trans
New cockpit
Heads rebuild (engine out service, both)
Blower rebuild
Carb rebuilds
Some body work on the transom, so all hardware removed, re-coat
Clean up bilge, recoat, replace maintenance items
And probably a few hundred hours of other stuffs

Can you just cut the cord? an old Cig is just a hole in the ground to throw money at. It`s never going to stop.

I wouldn't say it's the brand; it's the level of HP and high-performance parts people throw at ANY used boat.

yep, trust me it wasn’t my plan and last year I would have been better off with parting it. The six drives in the end weren’t going to cost me that much money, by the time I sold off everything else.

it’s the head repair that is costing and I didn’t see coming. Two reasons I’m putting time into it;

1. Didn’t want to deal with selling all the parts and 10-15 separate transactions
2. Didn’t want to get stuck with the hull and eventually see if go to the scrap yard.

who knows, maybe it will end up getting parted anyways.

I pulled the plug on the engines as soon as I seen it going the same way as the Cig.
Had a reputable builder build me engines instead of trying to build my own.
Not going to be chasing 100mph for 12 years and changing drives and set ups like an idiot for 12 years.
First year with the cig the new owner had engines, transmissions and drives blow up.
I was $500k into a 1985 boat .. if I kept it I would have been in it for $600k plus and that`s where Frick is headed. These old boats are heavy and they eat engines/drives and everything else because of the high load and inefficient hull..Thank GOD I pulled that plug on it when it was working perfect.
AND I did all my own work, Frick doesnt, so I can`t even imagine if I had to add THOUSANDS of hours of labor to that $500k bill. F that.

Unfortunately, I can`t afford a OB cat because if I could I would never step foot in a bilge again and I`d boat stress free.

I`ve learned some lessons with the Cig that I`d hate for you to realize after it`s too late.
I`ve wanted to pull the plug a 100 times but always thought , well after this it will be great, however that was never the case.

The 3600 is 20 years younger, hit 120mph first time out, is set up perfectly from the factory, sit down boat is amazing and it rides on air instead of the constant hop hop of an old straight bottom cig.
I have half the money in it.
The definition of insanity is dooing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. I was insane for 12 years.
Give it a shot thou, maybe you`ll have better results.

Yes, if your goal is to get an old straight bottom over 100 it’s gonna take a lot of money, a lot of HP and a lot of work. Especially a flat deck cig or Apache. Heavy sum b*tches. But you have basically the same set up in your new boat as your old boat and if your happy with just doing 100 then cool. But if you want to hang with the outboard cats running 135…..you see my point? It’s always something. 😂😂 I’m glad you’re happy with your new boat. Always been a fan of the 3600. Think if I ever got a cat, that’s what I’d get. Huge bang for the buck, reliable, predictable hull, cabin, all around good boat. I look forward to seeing it at loto in June! 😁👍

I may be just jaded because that Cig was always something and a ton of work but you guys are right I went right back to high HP stuff.
What I should have done is Merc 700`s and call it a day would still be a 130mph boat. But NOOOOO that would make too much sense.:rolleyes:

At the end of the day I wanted a 3600 because they are a great value (only big cat I could afford , kind of) and have a cabin.
They are underpowered with 700`s and at the time they were none available.
Most 700 boats come with NXT`s not #6s and that brings its own set of problems with drives and transmissions.
I got a deal on half built engines that someone bailed on from Eddie at half the cost of new. Couldn`t pass that up.

Do the 6s on boxes. That was the best drive set up for that boat.
You gotta experience that.

Glad to see you all still coming to LOTO. I haven’t done the Rendezvous since 2019. Just not the same in a CC…BTW here’s a fun fact - I designed and built Performance Boat Center. Big Thunder’s now the Cig Dealer here.

and rumor is BTM isn’t a cig dealer anymore. Check their website they have one new cig (2025) listed. No cig ads on their website no cig ads on their Facebook. No cig rendezvous they’re doing on their schedule they released a couple months back and the factory is now putting on this years run. Somethings up. Just sayin.

That partnership never made any sense to me, why would anybody partner up with their biggest competitor makes no sense, but what do I know?
