Need a lesson on Cigarette

OK gang, I asked this earlier in the general area, but didn't get all the answers I was looking for, so I'm here to ask the "Cigarette Experts".
My questions;
Why does it seem that, given identical power and drives, that the older 30 Mistyque, 31 Bullett, 35 Cafe, and 38 TopGuns all seem to run about the same top speed?
Then, just when I'm about to accept this, I see a new Mistyque at Lip-Ships Performance with stock Merc 575's that runs over 100? What's so different about this particular boat?
Feel free to type slow so I'll understand, and pictures on a Big Chief tablet work also.
Thanks!

Gordo, That 30' Mystique at Phil's(Lip-Ship) is a twin step boat. It is also not equipped with "normal, stock" 575's. That was Enrique Iglesias' boat and he had a few imaginative(read high $$$) mods done. He likes to go faaaaaasssttt, the Gladiator he traded the 30' for runs over 100mph as well. Can't speak for the older boats, just thought I could explain this case.

Hope this helps a little, Greg.

Exactly. The Twin step is the main reason. Then throw the tricked up 575's on that hull and you get speed.

By the way Cash. Philly took me with him and Neill to test Enrique's new Gladiator. 107 on both GPS's. Sweeeeeet!

Thanks guys!

I didn't realize the Mistyque had steps. How much are the 575's pumped up? Does anyone know the numbers of the new Cigarettes with, say, stock HP500's? or stock 525's?

Is the 31 Bullett still being built? if so, does it have steps?

Cash Bar 03-17-2003 11:56 AM

No more Bullet. Now, no more Mystique, either!

I don't really know about the newer speeds. Sorry.

The '02 Mystique in the class. in Oklahoma does about 74-75 according to the listing dealer. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Greg

Those 575's were some that Richie Zul pumped up to around 625hp. The Twin Step Mystiques w/ 500's will run in the upper 80's, sometimes more depending on conditions. 496's run 80-85. The conventional or "flat bottomed" Mystiques run around 10 mph less than the Twin Steps.

I know the boat on Grand Lake Oklahoma. It's really nice. It was bought brand new and wasn't used at all by it's first owner. The second and current owner uses the boat and respects it very well from what I've seen. Hope that helps a bit.

Go to www.grand-performance.com and you can check it out.

OT:

Can anyone guess what to expect from an 87 Cafe Racer, with 425Hp's and TRS drives?

Von Bongo 03-17-2003 06:44 PM

62-65 would be my guess

Hey Gordo -

Two weeks ago we were in Phil's tiny little front office. Prior to taking his Cigarette out, Enrique Englesia's was in there signing CD's for Philly. More importantly, Enrique's girlfriend Anna Kornikova was there with a bikini on with a sheer coverup. Much as I like Cigarettes (I'm in my third) Anna' body was right up there with Cigarettes. I think she's the twin - step model by the way.

Well, I would deffinately want the newer twin stepped version.
So, you talked me in to it. I'll take her.

None? as in Cigarette is no longer making either one?

BLee 03-18-2003 05:47 PM

No they were not selling enough Mystiques to make sense. They haven't built Bullets for years. The Bullet molds are going to be crushed along with the other old molds when they move to the new factory in June. They still have the molds to build a Mystique though. You know just a little bling bling $$$$!

Gordo 03-18-2003 10:59 PM

Ok, so how many of you have ridden, or better yet, driven a Mystique? Did they have handling issues at speed? ("at speed" meaning over 80). Did they just not sell due to cost?
In other words, what's wrong with the Mystique that it is not offered anymore?
Anyone?
private e-mail works also.

Gordo,

Have a friend that had a 2000 (I think) non stepped Mistique. It had a VERY BAD porposing problem at crusing speed. He constantly had to drag the LARGE K planes to compensate for it. From what I understand this is not the case with the stepped models. He refered to the Mistuque as the "mistake". It would run right at 80mph gps in fresh water, approx 720' above sea level.

Hope this helps.

Mark

The convertional bottom Mystiques needed a little tab to keep them ridin flat. The Twin Step has zero handling problems and is a night and day difference to the conventional bottom. They didn't sell due to cost and demand. There isn't much demand for 30ft Cigarettes. Most usually wanted to step up to the 35 or 38 if they were going to buy a Cig. They are awesome boats as you would expect, but people in the market for a new 30 ft boat didn't usually want to spend that much for a new one. Now though you can make great deal on a used one. The baddest one is the one at Lip-Ship. I have driven the one in Oklahoma a couple of times when it was brand new. Nice boat, 75mph on GPS.

The same went for the 20ft "Son of a Gun." Who is in the market for a $100,000 ski boat???

HMJudge 03-19-2003 12:20 PM

Mystique

I have sold more Mystique's than anyone,Neil Hernandez will tell you that.If you have any questions about the boat give me a call. Harry Judge Offshore Performance 410 827 0097 PS. I have a 2002 T/S 496 boat in my used inventory.

Is this the one you guys are talking about in Oklahoma? http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/8/4/33807384.htm

If so, I've had my eye on this boat for a LONG time. Maybe I'm just wierd, but I love the graphics on it.

How can I tell if is stepped or not. (I know, look at it!) Is there a year model to go by or something?

Ive spoken to the salesman. No steps, mid-70's for speed. VERY pretty though.
