42 This and That and 46 This and That!

Do any of you think that Cigarette is going a little overboard with all these different 42 and 46 models? I can't keep up with the difference between the XP and non XP, the Rum Runner and the Rough Rider, etc. I understand the reasoning behind the move but I question its viability in the boating world.

Nissan has four 350Z models. I have wondered if that was really necessary or not. Is there logic in having two or three 42 models and two or three 46 models? I always thought of Cigarette as a custom boat builder - essentially boats built to order.

What do the Cigarette afficianados think?

I think alot of it has to do with The different engine configurations matched to the right step setup. Staggered vs. side by side, hp 500's w/ bravos vs 900's and #6's, etc. One hull isnt gonna perform well w/ all power options & setups, right?

Jeffrey, I was wondering the same thing.

what happend to the days when the 38 was "the 38"

the 35 was "the 35" and so on and so forth

back then they didnt use flashy names for different models The Cigarette name sold itself;)

That is what has been explained to me. They are able to custom build the setup and rigging to fit your boating style.

Thrillseeker: What? Cigarettes has always had catchy/flashy names for the boats. Mistress, Hawk, Platinum Series, Bullet, Cafe Racer, Revolution, Decathalon, etc.

Does anyone know what the specifications for each model are? There is the 42 Tiger, the 42 Tiger XP, and one other model I think. Then there is the 46 Rough Rider, the 46 Stealth, and now the 46 Rum Runner. I also heard about the new Gladiator version called the 45 Maximus.

I understand about the different models - 42 Tiger, Tiger XP, Tiger whatever. Isn't it confusing to have different names applied to the same length boat where the names - and not a model designation - dictate the configuration? In other words - why not call the different 46' boats a Rough Rider "XP", Rough Rider "XPS", Rough Rider SS or something along those lines. It's like Mercedes when they used to call their cars a 280S, 280SE, or a 280SEL. The letters dictated the different level of options.

I love the names that Cigarette gives their boats. I think they are very appropos for the marque. That being said they should stick with one name designations for each model they produce. The Top Gun has always been the 38. The Cafe was always the 35. The Bullet was always the 31. You did not need the length to know the boat. We all know the Tiger as a 42. There should be one name for the 46 - not three names.

Many people do not like "Rough Rider" as a name for the 46. Maybe they need to come up with a name that sticks and becomes associated with the 46. The Gladiator will always be a 36 and the new Maximus will be a 45.

Just fruit for thought ...

I'm confused..but what is new :D

THRILLSEEKER 09-24-2003 06:01 AM

cigracer, you are right, I guess what I meant to say was that they didnt make different models of the same size and give them all different names:rolleyes: :o

I just seen a 46 Cig with triple 575's. What are they calling that? I was at the metro beach boat show. Sorry I had no camera,

Of course, an older 35 is a Mistress, not a Cafe.... ;) and an older 38 is a Flat Deck, not a Top Gun, and I seem to remember a 42 Revolution...

Just yankin' yer chain Jeffery, I think you make a valid point. Too much marketing mumbo-jumbo for me, but maybe it'll sell more T-shirts....
