Top Gun speed old/new

Quite a bit of difference. Say you have an early 90`s TG with 500's, it will run @70
The Twin Step 'Gun with same power will run 82-84
I have an older TG and when I rode in a TS I could not believe the difference. The TS rides like it is on ball bearings. It is very noticeable when you back off the sticks after a hard run. The TS keeps rolling along

I think the hull is also a lot lighter with the start of Vacuum Bagging around 1999.
As a comparison our 2000 Tiger (42') weights only 400# more than the 1994 Cafe Racer (35') we had, 9800# to 9400#, 4% more weight for 20% longer boat. The new cabin design weight much less also.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong, but we looked for 1 1/2 years for a Gun, rode in many, and this is what numbers we got.
A fiberglass Top Gun ('94-'98) with 500HP/Bravo's will get you between 65-67
We bought a Carbon Fiber boat ('91) which has 525 SC, and we see 72-73. We probably have 5-6 MPH over a fiberglass boat with the same power.
I've heard a T/S with HP500EFI should do 80 MPH all day long.

Our 2001 T/S Gun with 500's has seen 81.3 on gps with 5 on board and nearly full of fuel and gear. It will run an easy 80 mph all day.
I need to get some of the weight off and change out my labbed 28's to my labbed 30's and see how much more it has left. We are always going out for a day of boating though, and always load up on fuel, gear ect...

My ex girlfriends 95 Gun w/ 500's ran 65 and that is it. A friends Twin Step here on the lake with 500's is running 82.
The T/S is almost a completely different boat. It is incredible how much difference there is from the straight bottoms. I couldn't be happier.
