More Cigarette questions
I think it was Lucky Strike that posted...
"In the Cafe Racer & Top Gun model they made several different layups. Fiberglass (heaviest), Kevlar (less heavy), Carbon Fiber (least heaviest). Between 1989-1991 they also made a "Pro Series" and a "Platinum Series" I looked at a Top Gun this last weekend that had "Pro Series" on the side. What was special about this boat? Since the boat I fantasized about was sold, (30 Mystique custom made for Enrique Eglasies), I found a VERY close second. Now if I can just talk him down about $43k... http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/0/3/74186303.htm SWOOOON !!!! |

I would assume the "Pro Series" was the red paint scheme like Cignifcant's Cafe Racer below. Not sure what kind of engines it came with. I know for sure, that the "Platinum Series" in 1991 was the paint scheme and the Hawk blower motors. The lighter layups (Kevlar or Carbon Fiber) had nothing to do with the "Pro Series" or "Platinum Series." Our Gun happens to be Carbon Fiber. ....and come on those were easy questions! ;) LS JR. |

Re: More Cigarette questions
Wow! I was just joking. Didn't know anyone was actually familiar with the boat. In fact, give me a call sometime. I've got lots of other questions about the Mystique.
I got the distinct impression that Phil Lipship thinks anyone wanting anything less than a 35 isn't all there and doesn't really want to waste his time on those people. I'm sure a lot agree with him. HeII, I don't exactly disagree with him. And I understand that for the same money I could find a nice Top Gun, but then I would also be in the market for a 1 ton truck, a larger shop, slower speed/bigger power etc... So, that "same money" suddenly becomes a buttload more in "other expenses". And lets face it, the Ozarks is nothing for a Gun, or even a Cafe'. Maybe I'm somewhat hung-up on a Mystique now, but I don't want to be buried and upside down for the next 12 years and I'm sure I'll want to trade up in the future, (when I'm old and speed doesn't matter as much). |

Re: More Cigarette questions
Almost 1:30am and I'm still awake thinking about these freakin boats.
Pathetic... |
Re: More Cigarette questions
There are a few Cafe's on boatrader online that look within your parameters.
I had not looked at what was for sale in that range but they seem to have gone up in price a bit compared to when I was shopping for my Cafe. I'd say up about 10k on the whole. |
Re: More Cigarette questions
That twin-step 30 looks awesome, Gordo!
That would make a nice ride. |

The Mystiques weren't a great seller because most folks in market for a 30ft boat, couldn't justify the price of the Mystique. For the price of a brand new Mystique T/S, many could go buy a bigger boat from a different manufacturer for the same money. Granted it wouldnt be a Cigarette, but $$ is $$ for many. If you do buy a Mystique, get the stepped version if possible. MUCH more performance and much better ride. The non steps tend to porpose without using tab. Both versions are a solid boat, as you would expect. |
Re: More Cigarette questions
So whats the price now that it's been flipped ? Was it damaged ?

Re: More Cigarette questions
I don't know gordo, this looks like it'd be right up your alley. Even though it's not stepped. I think they're asking right around 80k for it. BajaDaze looked at it or spoke to Craig about it....One or the other.

I doubt it's even for sale. I'm fairly sure that the new owner is the one involved with the accident. I saw the picture of it bobbing nose up hooked to a winch. Flipped boats tend to have some damage. ;) |

In any event, the motors looked good and I saw the overhaul work order. The work was done by TNT Custom Marine to the tune of about 21K, the the motors should be fresh and ready to go. |

So The Question Is; Does Someone Need To Have Steps On A 30 Foot Boat. I Could See If Was 40 Foot+ , But 30 May Not Need Steps. Yes It Will Be Faster 3-4mph, But Were Are Talking Safety............................................ ......have A Nice Day.

Re: More Cigarette questions
Gordo,
Raymonds still has a new Non Step 30 with 377 scorps you might make an offer on. I don't know if Charlen is ready to part with it but its been on the lot for 3 or 4 years now. |
Re: More Cigarette questions
VB,
Looked at it last weekend. I think she wants to deal on it, but I'd like to have the power. Scott, having been in and raced a number of boats with and without steps, I agree that step bottom boats don't turn like a conventional V and are less forgiving. However, if you know this up front and learn/respect the limits of the boat, this should not be a problem. In racing we push to the edge, but when out cruising around, why does anyone need to turn that hard? As for the flipped Mystique, I believe Dreamer thought someone was saying it was the pictured 496 boat that flipped. Ok, so if the Enrique 575 boat was totaled, I'm curious. Where is it now, and how can I find out who has it with what damage? Nick, I'm thinking the one that Tres is offering didn't gain 20k in value when they kept saying that Dave Hunter could fix everything for $2500 or so. That boat has still had a hard life. It's becoming obvious that the resale of the 30 Mystique pretty much sucks. Since I'm weight and length limited, maybe I would be better off looking at another brand. I wouldn't be a Cigarette owner, but at least I'd be saving some money up front. I'll be on the road for the next 11 or 12 days racing Milwaukee and the Reggie race in NC, so I'll have plenty of windshield time to think about stuff. |

You are on the right track in your thinking. The only comment I will continue to disagree with, is the step issue. If someone is not competent or patient enough to learn how to properly drive a stepped boat, they have no business behind the wheel of a straight either. I've had 4 Straights and one Step. The stepped boat outperforms the straights by a large margin. They are just as safe as a straight, but faster! FASTER is why they are more prone to an accident. Take a straight bottom that runs 90+ and crank the wheel, just wear your kill switches. Some people don't need to go 80+ mph. Check your ego at the door and listen to people with tons more seat time. They are WAY faster than 3-4 mph over a straight. Although, most with an opinion have never even been in a stepped boat, much less driven one. I gave by buddy Kevin of Midwest Powerboats his first ride in a stepped Cig. He is now shopping for one. |

Re: More Cigarette questions
[QUOTE=. also if you run at cruise speed around 45-55 the bottoms are the same, its only the top end that makes the faster speeds with the air getting under the hull. so saying all that if 4-5 mph is the deal someone does not need to buy a cigarette they need a cat. i hope I'm making scene.[/QUOTE]
