40 foot Cigarette?

Yes, I believe they built some in the old raceboat days. There were quite a few 39's but there was an orange boat called Bounty Hunter that may have been a 40.

I think all the early 40's were race boats. The 40 Bounty Hunter was a light brown/tan color. The red Bounty was the first 35 race boat.
Roger Penske also ran a 40 called "Cam II" . Bob Magoon set the Miami to NY record in a 40 in the mid 1970's, he averaged 56mph.

The 40' Bounty Hunter I am speaking of was orange and had a different deck than the CAM2 Roger Penske / Bob Nordskog boat. Bounty Hunter had a really cool semi-circular fairing and dash. It was originally Billy Martin's but Michel Meynard (of Fayva Shoe fame) kept the Cigarette and a 4 outboard cat at Turnberry Isle in the late '80s and early '90's. Craig Barrie would remember this because Craig's father George kept his Top Gun and his Hatteras yacht 'Toy George' at Turnberry during the same period.

OC,
I remember the boat your talking about. I remember hearing the boat came out of the mold 1,000 pounds too heavy. I believe there were only four made. One of the hulls is often on Ebay and is referred to as the "bubble deck boat". "Popeyes" also ran a 40, I'm not sure if that was the "Bounty Hunter" repainted.
I always liked the looks of that hull with the Italian Styled deck.
I wish I could post the pics (I have pics of 4 Bounty Hunters) -But I'm computer illiterate.
