Bullet Head ReDo
3 Attachment(s)
Last winter I redid the fresh water system in my Bullet and I decided that I'd replace everything in the Head this winter. I went down to the boat last weekend and started "rippin' her out" :D
Thought that I'd take pictures and share with everyone. If anything, it will prove that anyone can do it...because I have no idea what the heck I'm doing!!! :D :D One thing is for sure, it aint rocket science!! :drink: :drink: The bowl is rusty and the metal drain is glassed in as well as the water supply. That complicates things, but there is plenty of time until boating season up here. |

The bowl apparattus was removed by taking out the screws and then I had to use a razor knife to break the silicon bead around the bowl.

Re: Bullet Head ReDo
Great post Craig, I still have this on my list but I'm tackling the GPS install at the moment. Btw, that plastic plate will work great, thanks again my freind.

Re: Bullet Head ReDo
Craig, pretty nasty down there huh? In '89 they changed the bowl fitting to plastic to eliminate the rust problem. Check your holding tank especially on the bottom where in contacts the pad it rests on. Probably corroded by the seams. The label on the tank is valid and they still are in biz. If you go with the new tank, have it painted and space the "L" brackets from the bottome pad. Prefferable with rubber to absorb shock. This is a crappy job!

Craig,
Interesting post and nice to see the pics of the work in progress. I'm thinking about something to mine as well, so I'll be sure to keep track of your progress. Thanks. BTW, just got back from looking at a 90 TG, half cabin. Mama wasn't too happy about getting a boat with no head, so she is pleased I passed on it. Later. John Sunrise Upholstery |
Re: Bullet Head ReDo
OK, I finished removing everything yesterday and have a fresh set of pics. Sorry if anyone gets annoyed by my thoroughness, but the pics will help me get it all back together!!!! (memory loss sucks!! :D :drink: )

Man that looks like a chitty job!!!! :D

Re: Bullet Head ReDo
Craig, What the hell is that white stuff I see ? We're suposed to get up to 10" on the island. I dealt with the holding tank people a couple of years ago and still in biz but sure you probably called by now. They'll have it to you in a week or 2 I'm sure. As I said in post #9 you may want to raise that with some rubber gromets to get it off the pad & to help the vibration issue.

Re: Bullet Head ReDo
Hey Cig1988, How the hell are ya? Post some pics of your boat, I never seen it. Are you coming to Atl. any time soon. I need someone that can drink as much beer as I can. The Joker is a dead beat, can't get him out any.
|
Re: Bullet Head ReDo
Your lucky you could get the tank out. On my 93 gun I had to cut the fuberglass liner in the head to get it out, not to mention the difficulty getting the hold down screws out.
Got a new tank from the OEM place and only took a couple of weeks. Was a chitty job, no doubt. |

Sorry to hijack the thread Craig. |

[QUOTE=cig1988] I dealt with the holding tank people a couple of years ago and still in biz but sure you probably called by now. [QUOTE]
I just called them this morning. The company is still in business but they are called "RDS" now. The phone number has changed as well, due to an area code change. RDS Aluminum Products 850-584-6898 $141 for the tank with a two week turn around time. |

I've got all of the components (except for the bowl...next week on that  ) and will start putting the stuff in this weekend. I had to use a different water pump (Jabsco ParMax2) and Y-Valve (Jabsco) than what was in there originally. I guess that they have been discontinued/updated...
I'm also using the "stinkproof" hoses. :D :D |

Re: Bullet Head ReDo
Craig,
I hope all is going well with your project. I lurk on OSO waiting for my long awaited Bullet to show up. When ? arise on a CIG, I want to jump in and respond, but I don't have my CIG to contribute intellegently...so I read and lurk...lurk and read...lurk and read.... You and the other members keep me motivated and excited while I patiently wait (i do lose it once in a while) for my CIG. With your project/s (and others) and the detail you provide for us, it is inspiring me to plan on looking into my crapper once the vessel shows up; I guess you can say that I am on 'crapper alert'. Keep up the good work and thanks for keeping us in the loop. From a new cig owner of 2 payments, WDG |

Done!!!!!!! :evilb: :drink: :evilb: :drink:
Of course I forgot my camera on the final day of putting everything together  I have to go back down tomorrow and caulk everything and install some screws, so I'll get the final pictures then. It turned out great. the only issue that I have is that I can't find a new toilet seat with the same dimentions as the old one, so I will sand and repaint that one. As everyone warned me....it WAS a chitty job.......but I had to do it and it should be good for the next 20 years!! Here are a few pictures of the refinished bowl apparatus. All of this work was done by a South Florida Bullet Crapper expert who I'm pretty sure wants to remain anonymous so he won't get stuck doing any more of them!! :drink: :drink: |

The rest of the pictures. It feels good to be all done!!! :evilb: :evilb:
After it was done, I ended up spending about $600 for the tank, macerator, fresh water pump, hoses, clamps, hinges and latches. I also spent probably 15-20 hours of my time. I can guarantee that nobody would want to pay me buy the hour!!! I do it slow....and right!! :drink: :evilb: :D :D :D |

I also replaced the hinges and latches on the battery panel. :D
