02 TS Gun ADVICE,,Please!!!
#1
I have been working a deal on a 38/ ts Problem being it has 700 hp power and I belive the salesman said it has #3's for drives. Eddie Culpepper at Hideaway told me today that the owner built the boat that way,,that in 02 the strongest outdrive avalible was a pair of new #3's, that was also the reason for the low price,$ 179,999.00 plus $13,400.00 for a new Myco trailer "the one it is setting on" checkout ad #7 in Cig classified, any advice is welcomed.

No, the strongest set of drives in 2002 were #6's followed by #5's...... #3's are vintage late 80's early 90's. Sounds like thats just what he had laying around. Are they 3A's???

The strongest SSM drives in 02 were #6's. 3A's and 5's are the exact same drive except the 5 is 6" shorter, same strength though.
I don't think 3's were even available in 2002 from Mercury. I would definitely have those drives checked to see how old they actually are. Also, have someone operate that boat who knows how a TS gun should handle. I would be curious to see if the set up is OK. They definitelty are fine on the conventional hulls...not sure about the TS though.

I remember being at the Cig factory and watching a customer deliver used drives to be installed on his boat.I dont think they would do that anymore, but thats what could of happened with that boat.
